Kelsey King tied her own record for most goals in a weekend with five while moving into first on the team in goals scored on the season.
Due Up:
Minnesota State is set to travel south facing off with the Lions for its 28th meeting with LWU in program history. The Lindenwood University Lions find themselves fourth in the CHA (College Hockey America) with a conference record of 2-4-0 with an overall record of 2-16-0.
Last Time Out:
Minnesota State put up a season-high 13 goals in its two dominating wins against LIU on Dec.16th and 17th. Twelve different players recorded a point for only the second time in program history. The Mavericks had not recorded 13 goals in a single weekend since September 30th, 2011 when
Kathleen Rogan (2010-15) led the Mavericks with five goals en route to a 14-goal margin against Lindenwood.
The Mavericks opened the weekend at LIU with a season-high four goals in the first period on Friday night.
Kelsey King led the way with two goals in the opening period giving the Mavericks ownership of the contest. She would go on to score another two while picking up a helper giving her five points on the night.
Jamie Nelson fueled the fire after assisting three of the four scored by King shooting her into first on the team in assists (15) and points (19).
Head coach
John Harrington called on
Lauren Barbro who stopped 17 of 18 shots as she earned her fourth win on the season on Friday improving her record to 4-6-0 on the season.
The veteran duo
Brooke Bryant and
Madison Mashuga add to the scoring onslaught with a goal each while
Alexis Paddington delivered the final blow in an 8-1 knockout.
Minnesota State kept its foot on the gas on Saturday's matchup scoring three in the first period courtesy of
Sydney Shearen and
Sydney Langseth. Paddington closed out the scoring yet again for a 5-1 final improving the Maverick's overall record to 9-11-0.
Senior
Alexa Berg who stopped 26 of 27 shots earned her fifth win on the season on Saturday improving her record to 5-5-0 on the season.
Taking on LWU:
Minnesota State is looking for its 22nd win over the Lions this weekend as the Mavericks own a 21-4-2 all-time record against Lindenwood.
Lindenwood sits fourth in the CHA ( College Hockey America) with a conference record of 2-4-0 with an overall record of 2-16-0. The Lions' offense is led by sophomore Morgan Neitzke who has accumulated nine goals with six helpers on the year.
In goal, LWU leans on senior Natalie Ferenc who has started 14 of the 18 games played this season accumulating 804 minutes in net this season. Ferenc owns a 4.03 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage.
