Columbus, Ohio--- Top-ranked Ohio State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and held on to pick up a 4-2 win over Minnesota State in the finale of the WCHA series Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks picked up a pair of unanswered goals in the second period to cut the lead from 3-0 to 3-2 as senior defenseman Charlotte Akervik scored her fourth goal on the power play at the 9:29 mark of the period.  Senior Claire Butorac followed Akervik's goal just 56 seconds later with one of her own to pull the Mavericks within one.
The score remained 3-2 until the 10:36 mark of the third when the Buckeyes added an insurance goal at 10:36 on the power play.
MSU goaltender Alexa Berg stopped 45 of the 49 shots she faced.
The Mavericks (13-15-0, 7-15-0 WCHA) are back in action Friday, February 3rd to take on Minnesota Duluth. Puck drop is at 3:00 p.m., at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center
