Mankato, Minn.--- Minnesota State's late push comes up short as MSU falls to the Buckeyes 2-1.
The Mavericks jumped on the Buckeyes early as the Mavericks put OSU on its heels. The Mavericks controlled the puck for the majority of the first half of the first period as it caught Ohio State napping.
Kelsey King took advantage of OSU's slow start as she split the Defense and ripped a shot under the glove of goaltender Amanda Thiele just 3:15 into the first.
The Buckeyes quickly woke up and responded shortly after as
Gabby Rosenthal snuck one over the blocker of goaltender
Lauren Barbro. Shortly after the first intermission ended, it was OSU getting the early jump resulting in a
Jennifer Gardiner goal in the first two minutes of the period putting OSU up 2-1.
The Buckeye took command of the pace of play resulting in a plethora of shots. Ohio State outshot MSU 32-16 by the end of regulation.
Despite the loss,
Lauren Barbro delivered a stellar performance between the pipes stopping 30 of 32 shots which earned her the second star of the game.
MSU is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. to finish off its weekend series with the Buckeyes.
