#16 Minnesota State Wallops Golden Eagles as Seven Different Mavericks Score

Mankato, Minn.---The Mavericks came into the match looking for its first win on the weekend after tying Bemidji on Friday. MSU got the much-needed win, taking down Crookston 7-0.
Allie Williams got the scoring started at the 28' mark of the first half. However, shortly after her goal, Williams went down with an ankle injury sending her to the bench for the remained of the match.
Just two minutes later, Maille Mathis hammered one home off a fantastic pass from Natalie Thoen at the 31' mark of the half. By halftime, the Mavericks had out-shot the Golden Eagles 10-2 in a dominate performance.
In the first 70 seconds of the second half, Natalie Thoen blasted a shot over all 21 heads including UMC's goalkeeper Kathryn Brainerd to give the Mavericks a three-goal cushion. Later at the 50' mark, Olivia Thoen, in similar fashion, sent a kick over every head finding the back of the net. This marks the first time both Thoen sisters score while wearing the purple and gold.
Assisting Olivia Thoen's goal, Brynn Desens notched her 25th career assist tying Amber Duosky (2003), Jeana Luedtke (2006), and Nicole Dooher (2012) for sixth in MSU all-time assists.
In the 72' mark, Kennedy Macke sent a pass into the box finding Louisa Shromoff for her second goal of the season making it a five-goal game. Later in the 83' mark, Mali Seran took advantage of a miss-play by the Crookston defense tapping home her first goal of the season to increase the Mavericks lead by six.
Just two minutes after the Seran goal, Rachel Luedtke was pulled down in the box on a scoring attempt resulting in a penalty shot. She took full advantage of her opportunity putting delivering the Mavericks seventh goal on the afternoon.
This marks the first time seven different Mavericks score since October 12, 2018, against Crookston in an 8-0 victory.
The Mavericks are back in action next Friday against MSU Moorhead at 3:00 p.m. at The Pitch.
