MANKATO, Minn. --- #18 Minnesota State had things rolling Friday afternoon at The Pitch, as the Mavericks shutout MSU Moorhead 6-0.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 6-1-1 on the season, including a 4-0-1 NSIC record. With the loss, the Dragons drop to 1-4-1 on the season, including a 1-3-1 conference record.
The Mavericks struck early in the first half as senior
Jenny Vetter netted a pair of goals within the first 13 minutes of the game to put MSU up 2-0. The Mavericks would carry that 2-0 lead into halftime.
Less than four minutes into the second half the Mavericks would add two more goals to go up 4-0. A Dragon own goal and a goal from freshman
Anna Van Wyngarden did the damage early in the second half. Seniors
Libby Spangler and
Mali Seran each added a goal of their own down the stretch as the Mavericks came away with the 6-0 win.
Senior
Mackenzie Rath (6-1-1) picked up her third shutout of the season as she stopped four shots. Carter Quinn (1-2-0) took the loss as she allowed six goals, while making eight saves.
Minnesota State wraps up the weekend at home this Sunday as it hosts the Northern State Wolves. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., at The Pitch.
