Mankato, Minn. --- #11 Minnesota State routes Augustana 4-2 to extend its record to 4-1-0 on the season and 2-0-0 against NSIC opponents.
The Mavericks came out to a hot start in todays matchup courtesy of a
Jenny Vetter rocket at the four minutes mark. MSU's goals was met with Augustana pressure which limited the Mavericks offensive capability.
After 291:23 consecutive minutes of shutout play by
Mackenzie Rath, Augustana forward Morgan Keirstead makes her free kick count sneaking one in just two minutes into the second half to tie the game at one.
Responding quickly,
Allie Williams rips a shot by AU goalkeeper Jilliam Barkus to recapture a one goal lead for the Mavericks. Just 3:37 seconds later,
Jenny Vetter has a shot pinball off both a defender and the post for her fourth goal on the season to give the Mavericks a two goal cushion.
In the 63' mark,
Allie Williams get pulled down in the box resulting in the Mavericks first penalty shot of the season. Williams did not waster her opportunity as she sails her shot over the hands of Barkus.
In the dying minutes of the match, Augustana's Josie Arduser makes a stellar play in the box heading a ball past Rath to cut into MSU's lead. It was to little to late for Vikings as the Mavericks closed out the day with a final of 4-2.
The Mavericks are back in action on September 16th as they hit the road to face division rival Bemidji State.
