Sam Morton has been tabbed Central Collegiate Hockey Association Forward of the Week.
Morton, a, native of Lafayette, Colo., had five points in two games as Minnesota State claimed a first-round series win over St. Thomas in CCHA quarterfinal action last weekend.
Morton scored twice in Minnesota State's 3-2 win Friday and had a goal and two assists in Saturday's 8-2 victory. For the weekend he had 11 shots on goal and a +4 rating. Morton has contributed eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 32 games played this year.
Winners of its last 13 games, Minnesota State (33-5-0 overall), continues CCHA playoff action this weekend with a semifinal game vs. Northern Michigan. The Mavericks, who have been rated #1 in the country the last seven weeks, and the Wildcats square-off at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in downtown Mankato Saturday with a 6:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
