MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end following a 3-2 loss in 13 innings to Minot State at ISG Field, Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, MSU now stands 9-3 (2-1 NSIC) on the season while Minot State improved to 7-11 (1-2 NSIC) with the victory.
The Beavers opened the scoring in Sunday's contest with a sacrifice fly from Mark Ossanna to carry a 1-0 lead after the sixth inning in Sunday's contest.
In the eighth inning, the Beavers and Mavericks traded a run each. For Minot State, a Kaiden Cardoso double to left-center drove in Matt Malone to extend the lead a half inning before Hunter Ranweiler recorded an RBI groundout to the Beavers' shortstop allowing Ryan Wickman to score from third base. After eight innings of play at ISG Field, the Mavericks trailed the Beavers 2-1.
The ninth inning saw the Mavericks tie the game, 2-2, when Jackson Hauge scored with ease on a wild pitch. However, MSU was unable to drive in the winning run as MISU stranded the bases loaded to shutdown the ninth-inning rally.
The Beavers prevailed in the 13th inning after they scored on Dillon Buckmeier's RBI groundout to second base. Grasping a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning, Trevyn Badger, now 1-1 on the season, secured the win in his third frame of relief work behind a 1-2-3 showing in the final inning to complete the 3-2 victory.
Starting on the hill for the Mavericks was senior right-handed pitcher Cam Kline. He pitched four complete innings, allowing two hits, and struck out three, while walking four en route to a non-decisive outing. In relief, junior right-handed pitcher Collin Denk pitched eight innings allowing two runs (both unearned) on five hits while walking one and striking out nine along the way. Handed the loss was junior right-handed relief arm Jack Brown (0-1) after he surrendered the lead in the 13th inning on one walk and one hit.
Minot State had the upperhand in the hits department during Sunday's game by an 8-6 margin. Both sides left 12 runners on base throughout the day.
The Mavericks are back in action March 23 at 1:30 P.M. for a seven-inning doubleheader against Bemidji State at home.
