Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Mavericks Up Record to 26-5-0 for the Season

Furry's Two Goals Help Lift #1 Minnesota State to 3-1 Win at Bowling Green

Bowling Green, Ohio ---  Junior center Brendan Furry scored twice as #1 Minnesota State extended its winning streak to six games with a 3-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association win at Bowling Green Friday night.

The Mavericks, who have won 15 times in their last 16 games, scored a goal in each of the three periods and never trailed in picking up the win over the host Falcons.

Minnesota State outshot BGSU by an 11-2 margin in the first period and with a backhanded goal from senior defenseman Andy Carroll at the 2:56 mark, owned a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of action.

Furry, a Toledo, Ohio, native, tallied on the power play at 11:26 of the second when he showed great patience before putting the puck past BGSU netminder Christian Stoever for his eighth goal of the season. After two periods of play, the score stood Minnesota State 2, Bowling Green 0.

The Falcons pulled within a goal when Nathan Burke scored at 14:54 of the third period, but Furry's empty-net marker with 18 seconds left, sealed the win for the Mavericks.

BGSU owned a 28-25 advantage in shots on goal, marking only the second time this season that Minnesota State has been outshot in a game.

Minnesota State senior goaltender Dryden McKay was credited with 27 saves and stands 26-4-0 on the year with tonight's win. McKay's 101 career victories rank third all-time in NCAA Division I men's hockey in wins.  Only Marty Turco (Michigan 1995-98, 127 wins) and Steve Shields (Michigan, 1991-94, 111 wins) rank ahead of the Downers Grove, Ill., native.

The Mavericks (26-5-0 overall, 18-3-0 CCHA) close out the two-game CCHA series with Bowling Green (13-11-3, 10-8-1 CCHA) Saturday with a 6:07 p.m. CST face-off scheduled.
