Minnesota State Gearing Up For #2 Wisconsin In WCHA Showdown

12/7/2022 2:02:00 PM

Mankato, Minn.---Minnesota State dropped both games against Minnesota 4-1 and 6-0 this past weekend. The Mavericks only found one answer on Minnesota which was the lowest goal total for Minnesota State since Oct. 7th against Minnesota Duluth.
Due Up:
Minnesota State is staring down the No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers has they are coming off one of the most dominate weeks in program history as they put up 17 goals against Bemidji State this past weekend. The Mavericks will head into this the matchup with a 7-9-0 record which is good enough for the sixth spot among the WHCA standings.

Last Time Out:
Minnesota State had its winning streak halted after back-to-back losses at the hands of the Gophers as each team hosted a home-and-home.
The Mavericks started the weekend off on fire courtesy of Kennedy Bobyck's third goal on the season, catching Minnesota by surprise. The Mavericks held the lead heading into the first period which has not occurred since the January 15th when the Maverick upset the Gophers in overtime.
The Gopher sensed trouble and came out looking for a difference effort. Minnesota score three in the second period killing the wind in the Mavericks sails as they were outshot in all periods.
On Saturday, Minnesota state's special teams lead to the Mavericks downfall as they allowed two power-play goals as well as two short-handed goals. MSU is looking to correct these mistakes has they take on a dominate Wisconsin power-play unit.
Taking on Wisconsin:
Minnesota State is looking for its fourth all-time win against the Badgers as it comes in with a 3-95-3 head-to-head record against UW. Wisconsin slots in third among the WCHA standings with a 10-1-1 conference record and 13-2-1 overall record.
The Badgers have already five players with over 20 points on the season with junior forward Casey O'Brian leading the pack. O'Brian leads the team in assists with 18 and game-winning-goals at 3 combining for 26 points.
In goal, the Badgers lean on senior Cami Kronish who has started 9 games for Wisconsin while accumulating 601 minutes in net this season. Kronish owns a minuscule 1.10 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
