Minnesota State junior Tanner Maier placed third at the 2022 NSIC Championship meet Saturday

Men's Cross Country | Mavericks Finish Second at 2022 NSIC Championship

   Wayne, Neb. --- Led by the third-place finish of junior Tanner Maier, the Minnesota State men's cross country team placed second at the 2022 Northern Intercollegiate Championship held in Wayne, Neb., Saturday.

The 8K event featured 127 individuals and 14 teams.

The Mavericks combined for 94 points in placing behind Augustana's total of 18 points.  Minnesota State, which was fifth at last year's meet, posted its best NSIC finish since the 2012-13 campaign when it also placed second.

Maier, who turned in a time of 25:01.31, is MSU's top finisher at the NSIC championship since David Barmasai was second in 2010-11.

Sophomore Ray Ure was 13th (25:39.15) and senior Ben Schmied was 17th (25:41.92).

Other Mavericks competing, their place and time included sophomore Adam Bohm (27th, 26:13.02), sophomore Nikolai Schmanski (35th, 26:34.02), freshman Tyler Lee (44th, 26:52.23), sophomore Caden Speikers (45th, 26:52.78),  junior Carter Owen (48th, 26:57.69), sophomore Jacob Bennett (58th, 27:14.40), freshman Maquanet Collins (84th, 28:12.05) and freshman Tyson Shannon (122nd, 31:38.94).

Next action for Minnesota State is the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country regional championship meet scheduled for Nov. 19 in Joplin, Mo.
