Hays, Kansas. --- Minnesota State collected its third win this week as they tamed the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 71-46 on the road.
With the win, MSU improves to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, NMSU drops to 3-1 on the season.
The Mavericks had a slow start in the first quarter as they had three lead changes. The Bearcats would keep the lead for the remaining five minutes of play and finish 14-9. In the second quarter, Minnesota State connected on 3-of-5 three-pointers and tied the score two times, but the Bearcats took a 24-23 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, MSU shot at 50% (8-of-16). Junior Joey Batt scored three three-pointers and a jumper while three different Mavericks added eight more points to get on the lead by seven points 44-37. In the fourth quarter, the Mavericks built up momentum to maintain the lead and extend it to a 25-point-lead as they shot 57.14% (4-of-7) from three-point range. MSU outscored Northwest Missouri State 27-9 as the Mavericks claimed the 71-46 win.
Freshman Natalie Bremer led the Mavericks with 16 points, three rebounds, and one steal with only 14 minutes of play. Batt netted 14 points, three rebounds and one steal. Junior Emily Herzberg added 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore Destinee Bursch scored eight points, three rebounds, and five assists.
As a unit, Minnesota State shot 41.7% from the field and scored 14 points off turnovers. They also passed out 16 assists and recorded 39 rebounds.
Northwest Missouri State was led by Peyton Kelderman with 12 points and Jayna Green with 11 points.
Minnesota State continues its season at home this Tuesday hosting Concordia-St. Paul at Taylor Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
