Minnesota State competed at the 2022 NCAA Division II Regional Championshiip meet Saturday in Joplin, Mo.

Men's Cross Country | Mavericks Place 12th at NCAA Central Region Championship

Joplin, Mo. --- The Minnesota State men's cross country team posted a 12th-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Championship in Joplin, Mo., Saturday.

The 10K event, which was hosted by Missouri Southern, included 30 teams and 206 individuals. Host Missouri Southern placed first with 70 points. The Mavericks combined for 310 points.

Junior Tanner Maier, who clocked in at 30:04:06 to place 19th, was the top Minnesota State individual at the event.

Other Mavericks competing Saturday included senior Ben Schmied, who was 61st (30:59.0) and sophomore Ray Ure, who finished 65th (31:07.4).

Other Minnesota State individuals competing: sophomore Adam Bohm (73rd, 31:13.5), sophomore Nikolai Schmanski (92nd, 31:39.8), sophomore Jacob Bennett (124th, 32:15.7) and sophomore Caden Speikers (138th, 32:35.6).

The top three teams in the region championship automatically advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Seattle on Dec. 3. The top two individuals that are not part of an advancing team as well as anyone in the top-five that are not part of an advancing team will also advance. The NCAA Cross Country committee will also choose ten at-large teams and eight individuals to fill out the Championship field.
 
The Championships will be run on December 3 in Seattle as part of the Division II Festival. The race will be contested at Chambers Bay and hosted by the Seattle Sports Commission.
