ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --- Minnesota State finished its west coast trip on a high note Saturday as it bested the Stanislaus State Warriors 80-76.
With the win, MSU improves to 5-0 on the season, while Stan State drops to 1-4.
By the midpoint of the first half the Mavericks built a seven-point lead at 24-17. Sophomore
Kyreese Willingham led the way with 13 points, while sophomore
Tyrell Stuttley netted five points during that stretch.
The Mavericks would lead by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Warriors were able to chip away at MSU's lead. After a pair of free throws from Stuttley, the Mavericks led 36-30 with 2:29 to go in the half. The Warriors responded with a 6-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the score at 36-36 with :27 remaining in the half. Senior

Malik Willingham with three seconds left in the half to put the Mavericks up 38-36 at halftime.
Kyreese Willingham led all scorers in the first half with 16 points as he went 6-of-7 from the field. Stuttley added nine points as well, which included a 5-of-5 showing from the line. As a team, MSU shot 59.1% from the field in the first half.
Tony Singleton led the Warriors in the first half with 12 points as he connected on 4-of-5 shots from three point range. Kobe Ordonio added nine points also. As a unit, the Warriors shot 39.4% from the field in the first half.
The Warriors managed to take the lead early in the second half at 41-40 with 18:59 to go, but the Mavericks responded with an 8-0 run to go up 48-41 less than three minutes later. The Mavericks would eventually extend their lead to 14 at 67-53 with 10 minutes to go in the game.
Stan State managed to get back within two points of the Mavericks at 78-76 with :39 to go, but a free throw from both
Malik Willingham and sophomore
Harrison Braudis secured the 80-76 win for the Mavericks.
Malik Willingham finished with a career-high 27 points, including a 6-of-9 showing from three point range, to go along with five assists and three steals.
Kyreese Willingham notched 16 points and six rebounds, while Stuttley posted 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
Brady Williams posted 11 points, while Kramer tallied nine rebounds and four blocks.
As a team, MSU shot 53.8% from the field, including an 11-of-24 (.458) performance from downtown. The Mavericks also hauled in 35 rebounds and passed out 14 assists.
Ordonio led the Warriors with 20 points and six rebounds, while Benno Zecic added 14 points. As a team, Stanislaus State shot 40.9% from the field.
Minnesota State returns to Taylor Center on Tuesday as it opens NSIC action against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
