Mavericks Gear Up for Busy Week of NSIC Competition

Minnesota State faces #3 Concordia-St. Paul at home. Then hit the road to face Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team continues with another week of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Mavericks play at home Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. vs. #3 Concordia-St. Paul, then will take the road to play Friday at 6:00 p.m. against Minnesota Crookston and Saturday against Bemidji State at 11:00 a.m.

Minnesota State is 4-12 and 3-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks picked up two wins last weekend against Minot State 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-18) and UMary 3-0 (25-6, 25-22, 25-20). The Mavericks won three out of their last four matches played.

About the Mavericks: Junior Sophie Tietz leads the Mavericks with 134 kills. Sophomore Brooke Bolwerk leads on assists with a total of 348. Senior Brenna Hesse is leading the Mavericks with 132 digs. Sophomore Kiya Durant leads the team with 67 blocks.

Minnesota State averages 12 kills and 15.4 digs per set for the start of the season. Freshman Emily Kern recorded a total of 21 kills hitting a .543 percentage for the Mavericks last weekend. Bolwerk had 62 assists for the Mavericks. Also, freshman Ellie Kline had a remarkable performance with 20 digs, three aces, and seven assists.

About the Golden Bears: Concordia-St.Paul stands third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference following the sixth week of competition. The Golden Bears are 7-1 in conference play and have an overall record of 14-2.

Jasmine Mulvihill is leading Concordia-St. Paul with a total of 244 kills. Ellie Sieling has recorded 188 digs since the start of the season. Teagan Starkey leads the team with 559 assists.

About the Golden Eagles: Minnesota Crookston stands 14th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference following the sixth week of competition. The Golden Eagles are 1-7 in conference play and have an overall record of 2-14.

Audrey Cariveau leads Minnesota Crookston with 150 kills. Natalie Koke has recorded 422 assists since the start of the season. Layne Whaley is leading the Golden Eagles with 198 digs.

Minnesota Crookston is coached by Nick Meseck who is in his first season as a head coach for the Golden Eagles.

About the Beavers: Bemidji State stands 13th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference following the sixth week of competition. The Beavers are 2-6 in conference play and have an overall record of 3-13.

Hallie Mertz leads Bemidji State with 157 kills. Hally Holker has recorded 236 assists since the start of the season. Lauren Justesen is leading the Beavers with 154 digs.

Bemidji State is coached by Kevin Ulmer who is in his seventh season.


Coming Up: Minnesota State continues its season playing at home Oct. 14th against Minnesota Duluth at 6:00 p.m., and Oct. 15th against St. Cloud State at 2:00 p.m.
