Box Score Mankato, Minn.--- The Mavericks came into the game undefeated against the Tommies and looking to gain more traction on the young season.

St. Thomas took note on how the Mavericks start fast and physical meeting MSU with the same tempo. Chances for both sides were limited in the first period came to an end with zeroes on the board with shots in favor Mavericks.

The second period came down to defense for the Mavericks as the Tommies came at the Mavericks in full force. From the start of the period, St. Thomas controlled the pace-of-play for most of the period. Mavericks' goaltender Lauren Barbro came up big on several UST opportunities to keep the game scoreless.

Minnesota went into the second intermission looking to make adjustments to turn the momentum. With just three minutes into the third period, Claire Butorac took a shot in the high slot leaking out into the paint were Brooke Bryant cleaned up the rebound to give the Mavericks the first goal of the game.

Bryant's goal gave all the momentum to the Mavericks putting the Tommies on their heels. On the next rush, Kelsey King split the Defense and put a nifty deke on the UST goaltender to give Minnesota State a two-goal cushion. The Mavericks would ride out a 2-0 lead to get their second win on the season.

The Mavericks are back in action next Friday when they travel to Bemidji to take on the Beavers.
