Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team continues with another week of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches. The Mavericks play at home Thursday at 6:00 p.m. against Winona State and hits the road Saturday to face Upper Iowa at 5:00 p.m.

Minnesota State is 6-15 and 5-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks fell last weekend against nationally ranked teams in the top 10; #6 Minnesota Duluth 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21) and #2 St. Cloud State 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 14-25, 25-18). 

About the Mavericks: Junior Sophie Tietz leads the Mavericks with 181 kills. Sophomore Brooke Bolwerk leads on assists with a total of 516. Freshman Ellie Kline is leading the Mavericks with 183 digs. Sophomore Kiya Durant leads the team with 90 blocks.

Minnesota State averages 11.9 kills and 15.3 digs per set. Freshman Emily Kern had a top performance last weekend with a .381 hitting percentage recording nine kills (one error, 21 attempts), and added 4 blocks against #6 Minnesota Duluth. In the last two games versus two top #7 ranked teams nationally had an average hitting percentage of.357 with 18 kills, 3 errors 21 total attempts, and added 6 blocks. Sophomore Kiya Durant had 10 blocks and added two kills against #6 Minnesota Duluth. 

About the Warriors: #5 Winona State stands ninth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference following the eighth week of competition. The Warriors are 7-6 in conference play and have an overall record of 11-9.

Madison Larson is leading Winona State with a total of 245 kills. Casey Volkmann has recorded 273 digs. Jaci Winchell leads the team with 651 assists. 

Head coach of Winona State Joe Getzin has been coaching the Warriors since 2014.

About the Peacocks: Upper Iowa stands tenth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference following the eighth week of competition. The Peacocks are 6-7 in conference play and have an overall record of 12-8.

Zoe Semelroth leads Upper Iowa with 219 kills. Nicole Pozorski has recorded 670 assists. Kaci Beesecker is leading the Peacocks with 331 digs.

Upper Iowa is coached by Aaron Nelson who is in his twelfth season as a head coach for the Peacocks.



Coming Up: Minnesota State continues its season on the road facing Concordia St. Paul Oct. 25th at 6:00 p.m., Sioux Falls on Oct. 28th at 6:00 p.m, and against Southwest Minnesota State Oct. 29th at 4:00 p.m.
