Omaha, Neb. --- Minnesota State dropped a 7-2 road decision in exhibition action at Omaha Saturday.
The visiting Mavericks, who enter the 2022-23 campaign ranked third in both national polls, fell behind by a 2-0 margin in the first period.Â
Omaha scored again early in the second period before junior center
David Silye responded shortly after an Omaha penalty had expired. A pair of Omaha goals, both of which came during a five-minute power play, made it 5-1 when freshman forward
Adam Eisele replied with Silye drawing an assist for his second point of the night. Another Omaha goal before the end of the period made it a 6-2 lead.
Omaha added an insurance marker late in the third for the final goal of the game. The host Mavericks converted on three-of-eight power play chances. while MSU owned a 36-24 advantage in shots on goal in the contest.
Minnesota State begins the 2022-23 season next weekend with a home-and-home nonconference series with second-ranked Minnesota. The Mavericks and the Gophers square-off in Minneapolis Friday before facing-off at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center Saturday in downtown Mankato.
