Mankato, Minn. ---The Minnesota State volleyball team (2-2) travels to Kenosha Wis., this weekend for the team's second road tournament of the regular season. Friday morning the Mavericks will face off against Quincy University at 8:00 a.m.  Friday as well as Colorado Christian University that afternoon with first serve scheduled for 2:45 p.m.. The Mavericks wrap up the weekend with a Saturday doubleheader rematch from last weekend  against Lake Superior State at 2:45 p.m., and UW-Parkside with first serve at 7:15 p.m.
Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks are coming off a weekend where they went 2-2 and played 19 of a possible 20 sets in their first four matches of the season. Senior Dana Schindler led the team with 58 kills this and 82 assists, freshman Brooke Bolwerk led the team with 83 assists. Senior defensive specialist and libero Mara Quam led the Mavericks with 82 digs on the weekend. Freshman Kiya Durant led the team as well as the NSIC in blocks in the first week of action with 27.0
Impact Mavericks: Minnesota State is led on defense by senior defensive specialist Mara Quam who recorded 82 diggs (4.32/s) while adding 21 assists (1.11/s) Quam is currently 3rd all time in career digs with 1,499 at Minnesota State. Senior setter Dana Schindler led the way in kills with 58 (3.05/s) and accounted for 68.5 points (3.61/s) this past weekend.  Freshman middle blocker Kiya Durant recorded 27.0 blocks (1.42/s)
Returning Roster: The Mavericks return 9 letter winners from the 2019 season, including four seniors: Jane Sakowicz, Dana Schindler, Mara Quam and Micayla Porter.
New Faces: Minnesota State will have four new faces on the roster for the 2021 campaign with the addition of four freshman: Toryn Richards (Cleveland, Minn.), Abigail Wolfe (Elkhorn, Neb.), Kiya Durant (Plymouth, Minn.), and Brooke Bolwerk (Appleton, Wis.)
Looking Back: The Mavericks recorded an 2-2 record this past weekend at the Keweenaw Volleyball Classic.
By the Numbers: This past weekend the Mavericks recorded 230 kills (12.1/s). Additionally, Minnesota State  added 217 assists (11.4/s)  and 258 digs (13.6/s). 
Minnesota State History: The 2021 season marks the 53rd season in Minnesota State volleyball history dating back to 1968. Over that span the Mavericks have compiled an all-time record of 848-667-8 (.559).
Preseason Outlook: The Mavericks were picked to finish ninth out of 16 teams in the 2021 NSIC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll. Concordia-St. Paul was tabbed to finish first, Minnesota Duluth was slotted second, and St. Cloud State rounded out the top three. 
Walking the Sidelines: Head coach Corey Phelps enters his first official season after serving as the interim head coach in 2019 and 2020. In 2019 coach Phelps posted a 18-10 record. So far in 2021 coach Phelps has earned a 2-2 record.
Scouting Quincy University: Quincy University is located in Quincy, Ill.,  and is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The Wildcats are 1-3 in 2021 with an 0-0 conference record. Quincy University is coached by Mark Jones who is in his third year with the team.
As a team in 2021, Quincy University has averaged 12.2 kills per set compared to its opponents 12.6. Additionally, the Hawks average 10.1 assists per set and 10.5 digs per set. 
Quincy University is led on offense by Mattie Norris who recorded 40 kills so far in 2021-22 season.  Erica Slinde is the primary setter for the team and has 69 assists on the 2021-22 season. 
Scouting Colorado Christian: Colorado Christian University is located in Lakewood Co., and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The Cougars are 2-2 with an 0-0 conference record on the 2021-22 season. Colorado Christian is led by head coach Bobby Blanken who is currently in his fifth year with the team.
As a team in the 2021-22 season, the Cougars average 11.4 kills per set while their opponents notched 13.8. Colorado Christian has also averaged 10.4 assists per set and 10.4 digs per set. 
Libby Goodman leads the Cougar offense with 50 kills on the 2021-22 season. Izzy Jones is the primary setter for Colorado Chrsitian having recorded 135 assists so far in the 2021-22 season.
Scouting Lake Superior State: Lake Superior State is located in Sault Ste, Marie, Mich, and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers are currently 0-4 on the season with an 0-0 conference record in 2021-22. Lake Superior State is coached by Dave Schmidlin who is in his fourth year with the team.
As a team in 2021-22 Lake Superior State has averaged 8.46 kills per set compared to its opponents 14.23. Additionally, the Lakers average 8.00 assists per set and 11.31 digs per frame. 
Lake Superior State is led on offense by Camdyn Odykirk who recorded 29 kills 0n the 2021-22 season.  Halle Grulke is the primary setter for the team and has 51 assists on the 2021-22 season. 
Scouting UW- Parkside: UW-Parkside is located in Kenosha, Wis., and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Rangers are currently 1-3 with a 0-0 conference record on the 2021-22 season.UW- Parkside is led by head coach Leigh Barea who is currently in her third year with the team.
As a team in the 2021-22 season, the Rangers have averaged 10.9 kills per set while their opponents notched 13.5. UW-Parkside also averaged 10.1 assists per set and 13.9 digs per set. 
Jessica Pappas leads the Rangers offense with 44 kills on the 2021-22 season. Ellie Adams is the primary setter for UW-Parkside having recorded 71 assists so far in the 2021-22 season.
Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return to action at home in the Taylor Center as they will begin NSIC conference action as they take on University of Mary September 17th, 2021 with first serve scheuled for  6:00 p.m.
