#20 Minnesota State Dominates Minot State on Road

Box Score MINOT, N.D. --- It proved to be all #20 Minnesota State Saturday evening as the Mavericks topped the Minot State Beavers by the score of 68-10.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Beavers drop to 0-4.

Head Coach Todd Hoffner picked up his 109th career victory at Minnesota State, passing former coach Dan Runkle for the most career coaching wins at Minnesota State.

The first quarter saw the Mavericks waste no time as they scored three touchdowns to go up 21-3. Senior JD Ekowa connected with senior Nyles Williams on a 30-yard touchdown pass for the games first score. Williams would tally his second touchdown of the game on MSU's following drive as he raced into the end zone from 36 yards out. Sophomore Kaleb Sleezer added a three-yard touchdown run in the closing seconds of the opening quarter also, while Minot State's Dillon Fedor connected on a 43-yard field goal.

Minnesota State added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 40-3 lead into halftime. Freshman Christian Vasser tallied an eight-yard touchdown run, while Sleezer notched his second rushing touchdown of the game, this time from nine yards out.  Freshman Hayden Ekern then connected with senior Parker Gloudemans on a 32-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the half also.

The lone touchdown of the third quarter came at the end of 10-play drive that put the Mavericks up 47-3. Ekern finished the drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to freshman Gabe Hagen. Vasser then recorded his second rushing touchdown of the game, this time from 27 yards out to put MSU up 54-3. 

The Mavericks recorded two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter as they claimed the 68-10 win. Williams tallied his third touchdown of the game as he returned a Minot State punt 90 yards for a touchdown. Freshman Charles Coleman tallied a 44-yard rushing touchdown also. Minot State's lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter also as Ali Mohamed notched a 69-yard rushing touchdown as well.

As a team, MSU tallied 642 yards of total offense, including 377 rushing yards. Coleman led the Maverick rushing attack with 103 rushing yards, marking the first time in his career that he has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game. Vasser added 74 yards, while Sleezer notched 63 yards. 

Ekern threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while Ekowa tallied 140 yards and one touchdown. Williams led the Maverick receiving corps with 67 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Junior Alijah McGhee led the Maverick defense with six tackles while senior Ty'Shonan Brooks and freshman TaeVyn Grixby each recorded an interception.

Minnesota State returns home on Saturday, October 5, as they host the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears during its annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
