Minnesota State Upended in NSIC Contest at Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Minnesota State women's soccer team dropped its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest of the 2021 campaign 1-0 vs. the Augustana Vikings, Sunday at Morstad Field.

With one goal in the 55th minute, the Vikings (2-2-1, 1-0-1 NSIC) were able to take down the Mavericks (3-2-0, 1-1-0 NSIC).

Senior forward Carlie Kray scored the eventual game-winning goal from just in front of the MSU net where she used her left foot to sneak a shot into the bottom-left corner of the net past MSU's goalkeeper Mackenzie Rath. Assisting on the goal was senior forward Morgan Keirstead.

Recording her first clean sheet of the season was sophomore Jillian Barkus, who was called upon to make seven stops in the match. In goal for MSU, Rath stopped six shots.

Sunday's match was an even one, the Mavericks registered more corners than the Vikings by an 8-4 margin while the Vikings claimed an advantage in shooting effort, with a 19-15 grasp on shot attempts. Augie put eight shots on goal while MSU had seven.

The Mavericks return home next weekend to host Bemidji State, Friday at 3:00 p.m., and Minnesota Crookston, Sunday at 1:00 p.m., at The Pitch.
