Edmond, Okla. --- The Minnesota State softball team lost to the Augustana Vikings 7-0 in the NCAA Central Regional Championship Game, bringing the Maverick's season to a close.
With the loss, the Mavericks season ends with a 40-10 record while the Vikings Improve to 47-6 and advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament in Denver, Colo.
McKayla Armbruster (14-4) started for the Mavericks and was hit hard by an aggressive Augustana offense, taking the loss after allowing four runs.
Katie Bracken entered in relief but was tagged for three more runs before
Mackenzie Ward entered to finish the inning and the game while striking out 11 batters.
Ashley Mickschl (25-3) started for the Vikings and pitched the complete game shutout for the victory.
Sydney Nielsen got the first hit for the Mavericks in the top of the first with a single to the right side of the field, but she was ultimately thrown out on a fielder's choice and Minnesota State was unable to plate a run.
The Vikings offense did not wait on pitches, instead attacking aggressively, managing to put their first six batters on the base paths. After chasing the starter, Augustana continued putting together hits, eventually scoring seven runs in the bottom of the inning.
Minnesota State only managed two more hits in the game but were never able to put together a sustained offensive threat as they fell 7-0.
