Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State University, Mankato's College of Business and the Minnesota State University Baseball and Wrestling Programs, in partnership with the Roufs family and his many friends, is creating an endowed annual scholarship honoring the life and work of Fred Roufs.
This scholarship is an investment in future business leaders and will provide support for a Minnesota State baseball player and wrestler. This scholarship is in support of Fred's unique and special approach to business while supporting the love and passion he had for baseball and wrestling.
Fred started his professional business career as a financial planner with IDS/Ameriprise. From there he transitioned to an executive role as a Divisional Vice President. During that time he was a mentor to many young men and women who were just starting their careers in the business world. His leadership could be attributed to the success that many of these young advisors achieved.
Fred's true passion was on the baseball field and the wrestling mats. This passion led Fred to be inducted into the Minnesota State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, the LeSueur Wrestling Hall of Fame 2010, the Marshall Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019. In addition to serving on Minnesota Amateur Baseball Association for 26 years, he became president in 2020. In 2021 he was selected for the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
"Fred was a great supporter, his dedication and passion for Minnesota State Baseball has left a tremendous legacy." - Matt Magers - Head Coach - Minnesota State Baseball
"As a member of the Maverick Wrestling team in the 60's Fred knew the hard work and determination our guys needed every time they stepped on the mat, he took that same approach and championed the program day in and day out he was a tremendous friend of the program and will be greatly missed" - Jim Makovsky - Head Coach - Minnesota State Wrestling
