Vetter and Tazic Lead Mavericks Over Wildcats in Season Finale Exhibition

MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota State women's soccer team took down Wayne State 5-0 on Sunday to wrap up the 2021 spring season.

Maverick midfielder Danielle Tazic scored a pair of goals in Sunday's 5-0 victory. Assists went to Jenny Vetter on both tallies, which came in the 12th and 21st minutes. 

MSU took a 3-0 lead into the half when freshman defender Mackenzie Oleson scored in the 41st minute with an assist from sophomore Shelby Lund

In the 65th minute, Claire Cater got an assist from Nadia Lowery that led her to a goal and made it a 4-0 game.

Vetter finished the afternoon with three helpers when she assisted on the Mavericks final goal that was scored by sophomore forward Allie Williams to make it a 5-0 game in the 85th minute.

In the match, the Mavericks came out on top in the shots on target effort 17-6 and doubled up the Wildcats in corner kicks 4-2. MSU had eight fouls while WSC had six.

In goal for the Mavericks, freshman Ava Blackney got the start and finished the first half with three saves on three shots. In the second half, sophomore Mackenzie Rath helped finish the combined clean sheet, also with three saves on three shots over 45 minutes.

On the other end for the Wildcats, Katherine Hagerman started in net and played the entire first half, surrendering three goals and making six saves. In the second half, Sidney Turman took over for the first 30:08 of the half and made four saves while allowing a goal. Regan Ott then subbed in and played the final 14:52, made two saves and allowed the Mavericks' final goal.

The Mavericks finished their 2021 spring season with one win in one official game and will now await a schedule announcement in respect to when their 2021 fall season will officially begin.
