MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota State women's soccer team fell in overtime 3-2 to Augustana in a friendly exhibition, Sunday at The Pitch.
The first half's lone goal went to Mavericks' senior midfielder Danielle Tazic after she sniped a shot that bent into the lower-left corner of the goal from a couple of feet outside of the box in the 19th minute. The Mavericks eventually carried the 1-0 advantage into the first half.
The second half saw the Vikings come out and score their first goal in the 56th minute when Kelly Partington tallied one unassisted to tie the game, 1-1.
Maverick junior Jenny Vetter put the Mavericks back on top by finishing a back-end pass by Allie Williams to put MSU up in the 65th minute. However, the Vikings wasted no time with their response, scoring just nine seconds later to tie the game, 2-2. Kenzie Geiger recorded the game-tying marker.
In overtime, Augustana got the golden goal in the 93rd minute with Savannah Ellender serving as the Viking's hero.
In the match, the Mavericks finished the race with an 18-16 advantage in shot attempts. The Vikings won the shots on goal battle, 6-5. AU committed four fouls while MSU had two. Corner kicks finished in favor of MSU, 6-4.
In goal for the Mavericks, sophomore Mackenzie Rath made three saves on six shots in 93:54 of action, Sunday.
On the other end for the Vikings, Jillian Barkus stopped three of five shots in an equal amount of time.
The Mavericks resume their spring season Wednesday at Winona State for a 6:30 p.m. kick-off.
