Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State soccer team handed the Minot State Beavers a 3-0 loss after a game winning goal from
Brynn Desens on a penalty kick drawn by
Jenny Vetter.
The Mavericks improved their record to 1-0-0 with the shutout win while the Beavers drop to 3-1 on the season.
The game winning goal from
Desens came at the 29:31 mark after
Vetter was tackled illegally in the box by Minot State. The penalty shot saw no resistance as
Desens drilled it into the the upper right side of the net.
Shortly after coming out of halftime,
Desens found
Vetter streaking down the left side and after she faked out the left defender and made a move on the goalkeeper, she placed it into low right corner of the net to improve the Maverick lead to 2-0.
Seven minutes later,
Nadia Lowery placed a ball deep into the box that
Vetter was able to redirect in for her second goal of the game and the commanding 3-0 lead. This is the sixth time in
Vetter's Maverick career that she has scored a pair of goals in a game.
The Mavericks were able to hold off the Beavers for the shutout win with
Mackenzie Rath and
Jessica Craigmile both playing in net and facing a combined five shots on goal.
The Mavericks will return to action Sunday Mar. 7th, against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears with kickoff scheduled for 5:30.
