MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota State women's soccer team defeated the Winona State Warriors 4-0 in a scrimmage Friday at Scheels Field in the Maverick All-Sports Dome.
Freshman forward Claire Cater had a big showing offensively for the Mavericks as their driving force in the win with a goal and two assists in the match. Jenny Vetter, a junior forward and Mankato native, also had a multi-point match with a goal and an assist in the four-goal win.
The Mavericks' first goal came in the 13th minute from junior forward Nadia Lowery with Vetter on the assist to make it 1-0.Â
MSU went up 2-0 when Vetter tapped one past the right of the Warriors' keeper in the 25th minute following a cross-box pass from Cater.
Just two minutes later, in the 27th minute, junior forward Brynn Desens scored her first goal of the match after receiving a feed from Cater that made it 3-0.
Cater earned a third point by scoring her first goal of the match on a rifled shot from just inside the right-side of the outer box that found the top-left corner of the net in the 79th minute. The Mavericks held on there to win the spring-friendly scrimmage 4-0 over the Warriors.
In goal for the Mavericks, sophomore Mackenzie Rath made the start and saw no shots on net over 45 minutes of action. Freshman Ava Blackney came in for the second half and made MSU's only save on one shot against. The MSU goalkeeper tandem was perfect in the combined clean sheet.
