Mavericks See Winning Streak End With 4-3 Overtime Loss at Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. --- Minnesota State saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Saturday with the third-rated Mavericks falling in overtime at Bemidji State 4-3.

The host Beavers, who had absorbed a 4-3 overtime loss to the Mavericks in Mankato Thursday, jumped out to a 1-0 first-period lead on a power play goal by Elias Rosen at the 4-minute mark. Following a BSU defensive-zone turnover, Walker Duehr found Reggie Lutz in the slot and Lutz made no mistake at 7:09 with his ninth of the year knotting the score at 1-1.

Another BSU power play goal, this one by Lukas Sillinger at 6:11 of the second gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead, but Brendan Furry's shorthanded marker at 12:30 evened things up.  The goal is Furry's first career shorthanded goal and extends his goal-scoring streak to four games. Then, hard on the forecheck, Duehr finished off a pass from Julian Napravnik early in the third period. His sixth goal of the year put the Mavericks up 3-2 and gave them their first lead of the game.    Ethan Somoza found the back of the net at 3:41 for the Beavers and the score remained 3-3 at the end of regulation.

BSU claimed victory in three-on-three overtime when Ross Armour converted on a Sillinger pass on an odd-man rush to score at 2:27 of the extra session.

The Mavericks, who out shot the Beavers by a 27-23 margin in the contest, were zero-for-three in power plays. BSU went two-for-four in power plays. Walker Duehr (1-1--2) and Julian Napravnik (0-2--2) both had two-point nights for Minnesota State.

Minnesota State, which drops to 16-3-1 overall and 11-1-0 in WCHA games on the year with tonight's result, closes out the 2020-21 regular season with a home league series vs. Michigan Tech Friday and Saturday.
