Men's Hockey | Mavericks Overcome Bulldogs 5-1

Jaremko, Duehr & Furry Contribute Goal and Assist Each as Minnesota State Records Sixth Straight Win

Big Rapids, Mich. --- Third-ranked Minnesota State scored three times in the second period in pulling away for a 5-1 win at Ferris State Saturday night.
 
Senior center Jake Jaremko, senior winger Walker Duehr and sophomre center Brendan Furry all had a goal and an assist in the game as five different players scored for the Mavericks, who won for the sixth straight time.
 
Jaremko got things going early when he tallied his third goal of the season at 0:50 of the opening stanza with Julian Napravnik throwing him a pass from behind the goal line for the tap in from in front of the net. Duehr also drew an assist on the play. The host Bulldogs answered in kind when a Jake Wilets shot from the point deflected off of Stepan Pokorny's skate past Minnesota State junior netminder Dryden McKay at 13:41 to knot the score at 1-1.
 
The visiting Mavericks scored three unanswered goals in the second period, the first of which at the 8:33 mark with junior blueliner Wyatt Aamodt cutting across the top of the slot before snapping a shot past Logan Stein for his second goal of the year.  Furry jumped on his own rebound for his third goal of the season at 17:25 and when sophomore winger Cade Borchardt cashed in on a rebound off of a shot from Reggie Lutz at 19:45 for his eighth goal of the season, the Mavericks headed to the locker room owning a 4-1 advantage.
 
Duehr completed the scoring in the game when he batted the puck into the net at 18:35 of the third period for his fifth tally of the season.
 
The Mavericks, who went one-for-four in power play chances in the game, outshot the Bulldogs by a 38-15 margin.  McKay, who stopped 14 shots, owns a 14-1-0 mark for the year with the win.
 
Next action for Minnesota State, which stands 15-2-1 overall and are a perfect 10-0-0 in WCHA games, is a home-and-home league series with Bemidji State with the Mavericks hosting the Beavers Thursday and a corresponding game taking place in Bemidji Saturday.
