Mavericks Cruise Past Golden Bears on Road

ST. PAUL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team got back on track Friday evening on the road as it defeated Concordia-St. Paul 86-58

With the win, MSU improves to 9-6 on the season, including an 8-5 NSIC record. With the loss, CSP drops to 1-12, including a 0-9 conference record.

The first half saw the Mavericks lead throughout as they led by as many as 16 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. A three pointer from sophomore Quincy Anderson gave the Mavericks their first double-digit lead of the game at 19-8 with 13:46 to go in the first half.

The Golden Bears managed to get back within six points of the Mavericks at 23-17, but MSU would finish the half on a 21-11 run to take a 44-28 lead into the locker room

Anderson led all scorers in the first half with 15 points and eight rebounds, while junior Devonte Thedford tallied 14 points. As a team, MSU shot 43.2% from the field in the first half, including a 6-of-10 (.600) showing from downtown. The Mavericks also enjoyed a 28-17 advantage in rebounds.

Marcus Skeete led the Golden Bears in the first half with eight points. As a unit, CSP shot 32.4% from the field in the opening stanza.

Minnesota State maintained its double-digit lead throughout the whole second half. CSP managed to get within 12 points of the Mavericks but it would get no closer as Minnesota State would go on to claim the 86-59 win.

Anderson led all scorers with 23 points, to go along with 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Thedford added 21 points and six rebounds also.

As a team, Minnesota State shot 47.1% from the field, including a 10-of-21 (.476) showing from downtown. The Mavericks also enjoyed a 50-30 advantage in rebounds and a 19-0 advantage in second chance points.

Carlos Barela led the Golden Bears with 17 points, while George Scharlau tallied 10 points.

As a team, CSP shot 35.5% from the field, including a 3-of-18 (.167) performance from downtown.

Minnesota State finishes its regular season schedule on the road this Saturday as it takes on Concordia-St. Paul. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
