#25 Mavericks Continue NSIC Schedule at Augustana and Wayne State

MANKATO, Minn. --- The #25 Minnesota State men's basketball team continues its season on the road this weekend with a pair of games against Augustana on Friday and Wayne State on Saturday. Tip-offs are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., respectively.

Minnesota State History: The 2021-22 season marks the 100th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,388-924 (.600) in 2,312 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 192-85 (.693) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

Against the Vikings: Friday's game between Minnesota State and Augustana marks their 124th meeting, with MSU leading the all-time series 68-55. Last season the Mavericks swept the season series against the Vikings with 72-67 and 79-70 wins at Taylor Center.  

Five Mavericks averaged at least 11.0 points per game against AU, including junior Devonte Thedford who tallied 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game last season against the Vikings. Freshman Brady Williams posted 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds a game last season against Augustana, while junior Quincy Anderson notched 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a game.

Adam Dykman led Augustana with 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game against the Mavericks last season. Tyler Riemersma averaged 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as well, while Bennett Otto posted 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds a game.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 27-17 record against Augustana, including a 10-9 record on the road.

Against the Wildcats: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and Wayne State will be their 34th all-time meeting with MSU leading the series 28-5. Last season, the Mavericks split their road series with the Wildcats, losing the first game 85-68, before winning the finale 80-77.

Sophomore Quincy Anderson led the Mavericks with 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game against the Wildcats last season, while junior Devonte Thedford posted 14.5 points a game. Both sophomore Malik Willingham and freshman Brady Williams averaged 12.5 points a game as well.

Jordan Janssen led the Wildcats with 21.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game against the Mavericks last season. Nate Mohr averaged 18.0 points as game also, while Justin Eagins notched 11.0 points a game as well.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 24-3 record against Wayne State, including a 12-1 record on the road.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the week the owner of a 7-1 record, including a 2-1 NSIC record. Last week, MSU bested #19 Upper Iowa 98-96 in overtime at Taylor Center, before falling to Winona State 73-59 on the road.

As a team, MSU is averaging 86.4 points and 39.8 rebounds per game while shooting 53.0% from the field. The Mavericks are also shooting 35.4% from three-point range and have passed out 89 assists and blocked 46 shots.

Sophomore Quincy Anderson is leading the Mavericks with 19.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. Junior Devonte Thedford has tallied 14.0 points per game and is shooting 56.6% from the field. Freshman Brady Williams is averaging 12.2 points a game also, while sophomore Malik Willingham has posted 9.3 points per game.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 21st season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 427-188 (.694).

Concerning the Vikings: Augustana enters the week the owner of an 8-1 record, including a 2-1 NSIC record. AU has won its last four games, including a 72-67 home win over Sioux Falls and a 103-74 road win against Southwest Minnesota State. 

As a unit, AU is averaging 77.0 points and 36.9 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 46.1% from the field and 34.2% from three point range. Augie has also passed out 140 assists and has recorded 54 steals.

Isaac Fink leads the AU offense with 18.7 points, to go along with 5.4 rebounds. Tyler Riemersma is posting 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds a game also, while Dylan LeBrun has tallied 12.1 points per game

Augustana is coached by Tom Billeter who is in his 18th season as head coach of the Vikings. He owns a 341-196 record at AU and a 438-246 overall record.

Concerning the Wildcats: Wayne State enters the weekend the owner of a 5-4 record, including a 2-1 NSIC record. Last weekend WSC defeated Southwest Minnesota State 68-65 at home, before falling to Sioux Falls 81-79 on the road.

As a team, WSC is averaging 71.4 points and 32.4 rebounds per game this season while shooting 45.3% from the field and 34.5% from three point range. WSU has tallied 91 assists but has committed 96 turnovers.

Jordan Janssen is averaging 17.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season, while Justin Eagins has posted 14.8 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.

Wayne State is coached by Jeff Kamisky who is in his sixth season with the Wildcats. He owns a 70-80 record at Wayne State and a 523-446 overall record.
