BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Minnesota State senior Jessica Kondas was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after recording multiple assists in the Mavericks' series sweep over St. Thomas, last weekend.
A native of Calgary, Alta., Kondas led Maverick defensemen with three points last weekend, including one assist on the game-deciding goal in MSU's 2-1 victory Friday, as well as a pair of assists in the Mavericks' 3-0 victory Saturday, to help Minnesota State earn a home-and-home series sweep of St. Thomas. Her mark of three assists also had her tied for the team lead in point-scoring over the weekend while notching six blocked shots over the series. Owning a plus-1 rating on the ice, Kondas added three shots on goal over the two games.
The award marks the first WCHA Defender of the Week honor in Kondas' career and the fourth for a Minnesota State player this season.
Minnesota State (7-9-0, 3-9-0 WCHA) returns home to play host to St. Cloud State this weekend at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato, Minn., Friday at 6:01 p.m. and Saturday at 3:01 p.m.
