#1 Minnesota State Overpowers Bemidji State for 5-1 Win Friday

Mankato, Minn. ---  #1-rated Minnesota State broke the game open with four goals in the second period in skating past Bemidji State for a 5-1 win in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday in Bemidji.

Junior center Brendan Furry had a goal and an assist in the game and sophomore center David Silye contributed a pair of assists as the Mavericks won for the fourth straight time in upping their record to 15-4-0 on the season.

Junior winger Ryan Sandelin scored his 11th goal of the season, gathering in his own rebound before backhanding the puck into the net at 2:29 of the first period and at the end of the opening 20 minutes of action, the Mavericks owned a 1-0 lead.

The second period proved to be pivotal with the Mavericks striking for four unanswered goals, the first of which came at 18:49 after an offensive zone face-off win by David Silye. Silye fed Reggie Lutz at the top of the circle and the Elk River, Minn., native ripped a shot past Mattias Sholl for his eighth goal of the year. Julian Napravnik connected for his seventh goal of the season at 16:11 and Furry scored his fifth at 5:44. Sophomore defenseman Jake Livingstone took a pass from Silye on an odd-man rush to score on a shorthanded chance at 1:19 and at the end of the second period, Minnesota State held a commanding 5-0 lead.

Bemidji State closed out the scoring in the game when Ross Armour scored in the waning minutes of the third period to make it a 5-1 final.

Senior netminder Dryden McKay, who stopped 11 shots in the game, now stands 15-3-0 for 2021-22.

The Mavericks and the Beavers close out the two-game CCHA series Saturday with a 6:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
