Mavericks Open Home Schedule Saturday vs. St. Cloud State

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team opens its home schedule this Saturday at Taylor Center as it takes on the St. Cloud State Huskies. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Minnesota State History: The 2021-22 season marks the 100th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,383-923 (.599) in 2,306 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 190-84 (.693) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

The Mavericks made their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament during the 2018-19 season. MSU owns an 18-15 record (.545) in NCAA Tournament play, including a 91-62 loss to Northwest Missouri State in 2019.

Against the Huskies: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and St. Cloud State will be their 193rd overall meeting. SCSU leads the all-time series 92-90. Minnesota State has won its last two meetings against the Huskies, including a 95-83 road win in their most recent outing during the 2019-20 season.

Sophomore Ryland Holt led the Maverick offense with 24 points, while junior Kelby Kramer posted a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Anthony Roberts led the Huskies with 29 points and nine rebounds.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 21-18 record against St. Cloud State, including a 12-8 record at Taylor Center.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the weekend the owner of a 2-0 record, which includes wins over Missouri Western (77-64) and Lincoln (92-69) last weekend in Kansas City.

As a team, MSU is averaging 84.5 points and 35.5 rebounds per game while shooting 58.9% from the field. The Mavericks are also shooting 40.6% from three point range and have passed out 23 assists.

Sophomore Quincy Anderson is leading the Mavericks with 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this season. Freshman Brady Williams has tallied 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game also, while junior Devonte Thedford has notched 12.0 points per game.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 21st season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 422-187 (.692).

Concerning the Huskies: St. Cloud State enters the weekend the owner of a 2-1 record, including a 94-89 loss to Clarke College earlier this week.

As a unit, SCSU is averaging 91.7 points and 34.7 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 54.3% from the field and 42.0% from three point range. The Huskies have tallied 55 assists also but have committed 40 turnovers.

Anthony Roberts leads SCSU with 22.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season. Matthew Willert has tallied 15.0 points and 4.7 rebounds a game, while Caleb Donaldson has notched 14.7 points per game. Ryan Bagley is averaging 13.0 points and 6.6 assists a game as well.

St. Cloud State is coached by Matt Reimer who is in his eighth season as head coach. He owns a 120-83 record.
