Mankato, Minn. ---The Minnesota State volleyball team (11-12) will enter the week playing three of their last five regular season contest. The Mavericks start on the road as they travel to #11 Winona State in Winona, Minn., Wednesday, November 3rd to avenge their loss to the Warriors earlier in the season. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. Then Mavericks head home for their final to home contest of the season. Friday Novmeber 5th, the Mavericks square off against the Dragons of MSU Moorhead at Taylor Center with first serve slated for 6:00 p.m. Then the Mavericks wrap the weekend up with a match against Northern State Saturday, November 6th at Taylor Center with first serve at 2:00 p.m. 

Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks are coming off a weekend of NSIC action where they went 0-2. Junior Jessica Nelson led the team with 19 kills (2.72 K/S). Senior Dana Schindler led the team with 30 assists. Senior defensive specialist and libero Mara Quam led the Mavericks with 32 digs on the weekend. Freshman Kiya Durant led the team with 5 blocks on the weekend.-

Impact Mavericks: Minnesota State is led on defense by senior defensive specialist Mara Quam who has recorded 373 digs (4.44/s) on the season. With these digs Quam is fifth in the NSIC. Junior outside hitter Mariah Edgington leads the way in kills with 201 (2.58/s) this season. Freshman middle blocker Kiya Durant has recorded 95.0 blocks (1.25/s). With the 95 blocks Durant is first in the NSIC  as a freshman.

Looking Back: The Mavericks recorded an 0-2 record this past weekend in their matches against #7 Concordia-St. Paul and the University of Upper Iowa. Losing to the Golden Bears 0-3 and the Peacocks 1-3.

By the Numbers: This past weekend the Mavericks recorded 62 kills (8.86/s). Additionally, Minnesota State added 58 assists (8.28/s) and 102 digs (14.57/s). 

Minnesota State History: The 2021 season marks the 53rd season in Minnesota State volleyball history dating back to 1968. Over that span the Mavericks have compiled an all-time record of 852-676-8 (.554).

Walking the Sidelines: Head coach Corey Phelps enters his first official season after serving as the interim head coach in 2019 and 2020. In 2019 coach Phelps posted a 19-12 record. So far in 2021 coach Phelps has earned a 11-12 record.

Scouting #8 Winona State: Winona State University is located in Winona, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Warriors are 21-3 in 2021 with an 12-3 conference record. Winona State is coached by Joe Getzin who enters his 8th year with the team.

As a team in 2021, Winona State has averaged 14.2 kills per set compared to its opponents 10.7. Additionally, the Warriors average 13.0 assists per set and 17.1 digs per set. 

Winona State is led on offense by Megan Flom who has recorded 334 kills so far in 2021-22 season. Bre Maloney is the primary setter for the team and has 925 assists. Becca Pagel leads the Warriors on defense with 443 digs on the 2021-22 season. 

Scouting MSU Moorhead: Minnesota State University Moorhead is located in Moorhead, Minn. and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Dragons are 4-19 with an 4-11 conference record on the 2021-22 season. MSU Moorhead is led by head coach Bob Jones who is currently in his 1st year with the team.

As a team in the 2021-22 season, the Dragons average 10.1 kills per set while their opponents notched 14.0. MSU Moorhead has also averaged 9.4 assists per set and 15.2 digs per set. 

Amanda Carlson leads the Dragons on offense with 303 kills on the 2021-22 season. Kelly Klees is the primary setter for the Dragons having recorded 388 assists. Sarah Petrbok has 332 digs so far in the 2021-22 season.

Scouting Northern State Northern State University is located in Aberdeen, S.D., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Wolves are 14-9 in 2021 with an 9-6 conference record. Northern State is coached by Brent Aldrige who enters his 11th year with the team.

As a team in 2021, Northern State has averaged 13.3 kills per set compared to its opponents 12.4. Additionally, the Wolves average 12.3 assists per set and 14.7 digs per set. 

Northern State is led on offense by Sally Gaul who has recorded 320 kills so far in 2021-22 season. Keri Walker is the primary setter for the team and has 939 assists. Havyn Heinz leads the Wolves on defense with 330 digs on the 2021-22 season. 

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will return to action as they travel to Minot State on Saturday, November 12th to take on the Beavers with first serve slated for 6:00 p.m. The Mavericks wrap-up the season on the road as well as they head to Bismarck, N.D., as they square off against the Marauders of University of Mary Saturday, November 13th at 2:00 p.m.
