MOORHEAD, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season Friday afternoon on the road as it bested MSU Moorhead 1-0.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 5-2-1 on the season, including a 3-1-1 NSIC record. With the loss, the Dragons drop to 0-8-0, including a 0-5-0 conference record.
The first half saw the Mavericks control the pace throughout as they out shot the Dragons 7-0. MSU recorded three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes but none were able to find the back of the net as both teams went into break knotted up at 0-0.
In the 79th minute the Mavericks received a corner kick that was taken by sophomore
Olivia Sharar. A header off the corner kick from junior
Brynn Desens was blocked but junior
Jenny Vetter was there kick in the rebound for her fifth goal of the season to put the Mavericks up 1-0.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Rath (2-1-1) picked up the win as she made one save. Kayleigh Sedlacek (0-7-0) took the loss as she allowed one goal, while making eight saves.
In total, Minnesota State recorded 17 shots, including nine on goal compared to MSU Moorhead's one shot on goal. The Mavericks also enjoyed an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Minnesota State concludes its road trip this Sunday as it takes on the Northern State Wolves in Aberdeen, S.D., at 1:00 p.m.
