MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team will remain home this weekend for a pair of games against Southwest Minnesota State after splitting a two-game series with the Wayne State Wildcats last week. Friday, Jan 22nd, the Mavericks and Mustangs will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday the teams will begin action at 3:00 p.m.

Mavericks at a Glance: Last weekend the Mavericks split a pair of games against the Wayne State Wildcats. Saturday night Minnesota State fell to the Wildcats 84-79 and Sunday evening, the Mavericks picked up a convincing 84-71 win.

Stat Pack: As a team, Minnesota State is averaging 76.8 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 76.8. Additionally, the Mavericks average 44.0 rebounds per
game and dish out 14.0 assists per game while stealing the ball 13.2 times per game.

Impact Mavericks: Sophomore guard Joey Batt is the leading scorer for the Mavericks averaging 14.7 points per game. Senior forward Rachel Shumski is the second leading scorer for Minnesota State averaging 12.8 points per game to go along with 7.2 boards per game which leads the Mavericks. Senior wing Rachel Shumski is also averaging 12.8 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game.

About Southwest Minnesota State: Last weekend Southwest Minnesota State suffered a picked up a pair of wins over Upper Iowa. The Mustangs are led by fifth year head coach Tom Webb. 

Southwest Minnesota State's top offensive threat is senior guard Maleah Reinhart who is averaging 14.3 points per game to go along with 3.8 rebounds a game. Sadie Stelter (13.3 ppg) and Jenna Borchers (11.8 ppg) both contribute double figure scoring for the Mustangs this season.

As a team, SMSU averages 71.3 points per game compared to their opponents 51.0 points per game. The Mustangs average 45.3 rebounds per game and average 3.3 blocks per contest.

For the teams, these games will mark the 52nd and 53rd all-time meeting with the Mavericks and Mustangs. Last season, Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State split their two contests with one another.

Looking Ahead: After the two-game series with the Mustangs the Mavericks will return to the road for a pair of games against Sioux Falls. Friday, Jan. 29th the game will tip-off at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday the teams will begin play at 4:00 p.m.
