Cade Borchardt had a hand in all three goals and junior goaltender
Dryden McKay was flawless as fourth-rated Minnesota State skated to a 3-0 road Western Collegiate Hockey Association road win at 19th-ranked Lake Superior State Friday.
Following a scoreless first period in which the Mavericks outshot the Lakers by a 9-6 margin, Minnesota State scored twice in the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
Napravnik finished off a nice pass from Borchardt to cash in on a power play opportunity at 8:28 for the game's first goal. The goal, which was also assisted by
Nathan Smith, is the fifth of the year for Napravnik. Junior defenseman
Wyatt Aamodt's shot from the point found its way to the back of the net at 17:42 and the blueliner's first goal of the season had the Mavericks owning a 2-0 edge at the end of two periods of action.
The Mavericks, who owned a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal in the third period, got an empty net, power play goal from Nathan Smith with a minute left to close out the scoring in the game.
Napravnik finished the game with a goal and two assists and Borchardt had assists on all three Minnesota State goals. Smith had two points on a goal and an assist.
Dryden McKay, who's now 6-1-0 for the season with tonight's win, turned aside all 23 shots he faced in claiming his fifth shutout of the season. It's also the 19th shutout of his career and moves him into a tie for fourth on the NCAA Division I men's hockey all-time list. McKay has now earned shutouts in three straight games for the second time in his career and owns a streak of 183:27 of not giving up a goal.
With the win Minnesota State ups its record to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 WCHA, while Lake Superior State is 6-2-3 overall and 0-1-0 WCHA.
The two teams conclude the WCHA series Saturday with a 4:07 p.m. CST face-off scheduled.
