Davenport, Fla. --- Minnesota State won two games to extend its winning streak to four in a row by defeating in state rival St. Cloud State 7-1 and Ashland, who is ranked #6 in the NCBWA Top 25 Poll, 5-4 in 11 innings on Sunday at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
 
GAME 1 – Minnesota State 7, St. Cloud State 1
 
The Mavericks use a big fifth inning and a complete game by sophomore right-hander Jack Zigan to defeat the Huskies in the nonconference matchup.
The Huskies were the first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning before the Mavericks rattled off seven straight runs to finish the game. The unearned run was scored by junior shortstop 
Kyle Rodriguez, who reached on an error earlier in the inning, when senior left fielder 
Lenny Walker bounced into a four-six-three double play.
 
Minnesota State scored five runs in the fifth inning and did not look back of its way to the win. Freshman left fielder 
Hunter Ranweiler walked and junior right fielder 
Jack Waletich singled on a bunt to open the inning. Sophomore catcher 
Mikey Fredrickson laid down a sacrifice bunt that Ranweiler ended up scoring on because of a St. Cloud State error. Waletich scored in the next at bat when sophomore 
Nick Altermatt grounded out to second base. Senior second baseman 
Teddy Petersen followed with a double that brought Fredrickson to the plate and then junior designated hitter 
Cam Kline traded places with Petersen on a double for the fourth run of the inning. Kline ended up scoring on an error by the left fielder on senior center fielder 
Joey Werner's single. 
 
In the top of the eighth inning, the Mavericks added to their lead after Waletich brought in Werner to score after he lead off the inning singled on a bunt. The last run of the game was scored in the top of the ninth inning as Altermatt lead off the inning with a single and then scored later on a groundout by Werner.
 
Petersen and Waletich both collected three hits in the six run win over SCSU, while Werner and senior first baseman 
Ty Buck had two hits as well. Werner also had two RBI.
 
Sophomore right-hander 
Jack Zigan (1-0) earned the win after pitching a complete game and only allowing the one unearned run on two hits, while striking out 12 batters.
 
Junior left-hander 
Matt Osterberg (1-1) took the loss after going eight innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. Freshman right-hander 
Avery Stevens pitched the final inning and gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout.
GAME 2 – Minnesota State 5, Ashland 4 (11 inn.)
 
The Mavericks won their fourth straight game of the Florida trip, taking down No. 6 Ashland in extra innings.
 
Minnesota State scored runs in the top of the second, third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead over the nationally ranked Eagles. In the second inning Kline, who was also pitching, roped a triple to the right center field gap to open the inning and then scored later on an error by the catcher. In the third inning Altermatt got on base by way of a walk and scored from third after getting in a run down with the third baseman throwing the ball away. Two runs were scored in the fourth inning with two outs with junior catcher 
Ben Livorsi reaching on a hit by pitch and freshman third baseman 
Adam Schneider singling to center field. Altermatt then hit a shallow fly ball to right field that was dropped and allowed Livorsi and Schneider to score.
 
The Eagles started chipping away in the bottom of the fourth inning with senior first baseman 
Carson Mittermaier bringing in junior shortstop 
Austin Eifired to score on a single up the middle. An error by the Mavericks helped Ashland score in the bottom of the fifth inning as junior second baseman 
Logan Moss reached on that error to begin the inning and then scoring on a groundout by senior third baseman 
Garett Robberts.
Ashland even up the score in the bottom of the ninth inning to force the game into extra innings. Kline allowed the first two runners to reach before being replaced by Altermatt on the mound with Mittermaier and junior left fielder 
Micah Allen hitting back-to-back singles. Mittermaier scored on the single through the left side by Moss and Allen came around after junior right fielder 
Dillan Smith hit into a fielder's choice.
The go ahead run was scored by Minnesota State in the top of the 11th inning as Livorsi launched his first home run as a Maverick of the right field fence on the second pitch of the inning.
 
Buck collected the only multi-hit game for the Mavericks with two hits.
  
Junior right-hander 
Cam Kline received a no decision after pitching eight innings and allowing four runs (three earned runs) on six hits, while gaining four strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander 
Nick Altermatt (2-0) was awarded the win after pitching the final three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk and striking out three.
 
Joel right-hander 
Joel Ciccarelli also received a no decision after going two and a third innings, giving up two runs (one earned run) on one hit and three walks with two strikeouts. Freshman left-hander 
Adam Schomburg pitched the next three and two-thirds innings in relief and allowed two unearned runs on a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Junior left-hander 
Alex Bish (0-1) was hit with the loss after allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts in the finak five innings.
 
Minnesota State (6-3) plays Sioux Falls in a nonconference affair on day five of the Florida trip tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. EST at Sanford Stadium.
