Mavericks Walk Off in 11 Innings Against Cedarville

Davenport, Fla. --- Minnesota State played in its third straight extra inning game with senior center fielder Joey Werner notching the walk off single in the 11th inning. The Mavericks defeated the Cedarville Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-4.
 
Minnesota State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning over Cedarville. Freshman third baseman Adam Schneider led off the inning with a walk and then with two outs, junior right fielder Cam Kline hit a single to right field to drive in Schneider. 
 
The Mavericks went on to add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Schneider opened the inning with a double to deep right field and sophomore catcher Mikey Fredrickson also reached base after being hit by a pitch. Again with two outs, Kline came up clutch and drove in both runs on a single up the middle.

Cedarville got on the board in the top of the eighth inning with the help of two Maverick errors. All three runs were unearned as sophomore pinch hitter Jadon Ambrose scored on the first error after reaching on a walk to begin the inning. Sophomore pinch runner Micah Stewart scored the second run as sophomore second baseman Payton Eeles reached on a fielder's choice. Eeles scored the final run of the inning when junior center fielder Bryce Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to right field and forced extra innings.

The Yellow Jackets took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th inning when freshman third baseman Lucas Rotello hit a double deep in the right center field gap that scored Eeles. The Mavericks responded in the bottom half of the inning as junior first baseman Carter Elliott hit a bloop single in shallow right field that brought around senior second baseman Teddy Petersen to score.

The walk off hit came in the bottom of the 11th inning with runners on first and second with two outs. Freshman left fielder Hunter Ranweiler reached on a fielder's choice and Kline walked to set up senior center fielder Joey Werner. The transfer from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi legged out an infield single as Ranweiler came around from second base to score the winning run.
 
Kline and Werner both collected two hits in the game as Kline led the way with three runs batted in.
  
Senior right-hander Jon Ludwig received a no decision after throwing seven scoreless innings and allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out 11. Junior right-hander Brendan Knoll did not record an out in the eighth inning and allowed three unearned runs off two errors and a walk. Junior right-hander Trevor Divinski (1-0) earned the win after pitching four innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five .
 
Sophomore right-hander Noah Cline also received a no decision after going five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander Noah Schleinitz pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing three walks while picking up four strikeouts. Junior right-hander Drew Minnich pitched two and two-thirds innings and allowed one run on one hit and three walks with three strikeouts. Senior right-hander Connor Culhane (0-1) took the loss after giving up one hit and walking one to put runners on base in the 11th inning. Senior right-hander Riley Landrum allowed the walk off hit to Werner and also recorded a walk.
 
Minnesota State (3-3) will play its third game of the Florida Trip against Wilmington tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST in Davenport, Fla.
