Mavericks Conclude Regular Season Road Schedule at Augustana and Wayne State this Weekend

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team will wrap up its regular season road schedule this weekend as it takes on the Augustana Vikings on Friday and the Wayne State Wildcats on Saturday. Tip-offs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

Minnesota State History: The 2019-20 season marks the 98th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,367-912 (.599) in 2,279 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 180-76 (.703) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

The Mavericks made their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season. MSU owns an 18-15 record (.545) in NCAA Tournament play, including a 91-62 loss to Northwest Missouri State in 2019.

Against the Vikings: Friday's game between Minnesota State and Augustana will be their 120th all-time meeting, with MSU leading the all-time series with a 66-53 record. Earlier this season, the Mavericks bested the Vikings 89-77 in Taylor Center.

Sophomore Corvon Seales led the Maverick offense with 19 points against the Vikings, while senior Cameron Kirksey notched 16 points. Sophomore Kelby Kramer tallied 10 points and nine rebounds also, while senior Carter Asche and freshman Landon Wolfe notched 11 and 10 points off the bench, respectively.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 25-16 record against Augustana, including a 10-8 record on the road.

Against the Wildcats: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and Wayne State will be their 31st meeting, with MSU leading the all-time series 26-4. Earlier this season, WSC defeated MSU 73-71 at Taylor Center.

Freshman Ryland Holt notched a team-leading 17 points, while senior Cameron Kirksey tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Corvon Seales added 14 points also.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 22-2 record against Wayne State, including a 9-0 record on the road.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the weekend the owner of an 13-11 record, including an 11-7 NSIC record. Last weekend, the Mavericks defeated Minnesota Crookston 93-90 and Bemidji State 87-60 at Taylor Center.

As a team, MSU has averaged 77.3 points and 38.3 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 46.0% from the field. The Mavericks have passed out 320 assists and have recorded 116 blocks.

Five Mavericks are averaging more than nine points per game this season, including senior Cameron Kirksey who is posting a team-leading 16.9 points a game. Freshman Ryland Holt has notched 14.3 points per game also, while senior Kevin Krieger has tallied 11.4 points a game. Sophomore Kelby Kramer is averaging 9.3 points and a team-best 9.0 rebounds a game as well, while freshman Corvon Seales has notched 10.1 points and a team-best 3.0 assists a game.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 19th season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 406-176 (.697).
    
Concerning the Vikings: Augustana enters the weekend the owner of a 14-10 record, including a 9-9 NSIC record. Last weekend on the road, AU fell to Minnesota Duluth 73-67, before topping St. Cloud 81-58. 

As a team, AU is averaging 79.7 points and 42.0 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 43.3% from the field, including a 34.4% showing from three point range. The Vikings have passed out 321 assists and have tallied 132 steals.

Matt Todd is averaging 13.4 points per game this season and has connected on a team-best  56 three pointers. Tyler Riemersma has tallied 13.3 points and a team-leading 10.4 rebounds per game this season also, while Dylan LeBrun has notched 11.6 points a game.

Augustana is coached by Tom Billeter who is in his 17th season with the Vikings. He owns a 315-187 record at AU.

Concerning the Wildcats: Wayne State enters the weekend the owner of a 10-17 record, including a 7-11 NSIC record. Last weekend, WSC fell to St. Cloud State (90-68) and Minnesota Duluth (91-70) on the road.

As a team, WSC is averaging 73.0 points and 35.3 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 45.3% from the field and 35.5% from three point land. The Wildcats have also passed out 322 assists and have recorded 103 blocks.

Jodan Janssen is leading the Wildcats with 17.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this season. Nick Ferrarini has notched 14.5 points per game and 55 three pointers this season, while Nate Mohr has tallied 12.3 points a game and a team-best 56 three pointers.

The Wildcats are coached by Jeff Kaminsky who is in his fourth season at Wayne State. He owns a 55-63 record.
