Mankato, Minn. --- #5 Minnesota State wrapped up its home nonconference men's hockey series against Bemidji State with a 1-1 tie followed by a shootout win in the fifth round after a scoreless overtime period.

With the tie, the Mavericks record moves to 3-1-1 on the season while the Beavers move to 1-3-1.

Neither team managed to find a consistent offensive flow early in the gamef, but and the 12:06 mark of the first period Bemidji State struck first when Lukas Sillinger batted the puck past Ryan Edquist. The Mavericks wasted no time in response when Reggie Lutz wrapped the puck around into the net for the equalizer, beating Zach Driscoll for this third goal of the year at the 12:24 mark. The goal was assisted by Jake Jaremko, his fifth assist on the year.

Despite an uptick in shots on goal from both teams in the second period, the goaltenders for each team remained steadfast in sending back every attempt, maintaining the 1-1 tie. Going into the third, the Mavericks held a 22-12 advantage in shots on goal over the Beavers.

Minnesota State controlled the action through much of the third period with several good looks, but Driscoll fended off all 13 shots on goal from the Mavericks to send the game to overtime.

In the five-minute overtime period Minnesota State overcame a penalty for too many men on the ice but once again, neither team was able to get a puck into the back of the net, resulting in a tie.

After four rounds of saved shots in the shootout, Julian Napravnik snuck the puck past Driscoll and Edquist stopped his final opportunity to earn the shootout win for Minnesota State.

Edquist finished the game with 16 saves while the Mavericks maintained a 41-17 advantage in shots on goal.

Minnesota State (3-1-1 overall) is scheduled to return to action Jan. 2-3 for a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series in Marquette, Mich., against Northern Michigan.
