#3 Minnesota State Continues to Roll; Hosts Bemidji State This Weekend

Off the Hop
Minnesota State extended its winning streak to seven games with a pair of league road wins at #15 Bowling Green last weekend. The Mavericks, who downed the host Falcons 6-3 Friday before claiming a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime win Saturday, own a 22-3-1 overall record.

The Mavericks, who have won 17 of their last 19 games and are rated third is this week's USCHO poll, stand 58-56-20 in the all-time series vs. Bemidji State, this weekend's opponent. Including a 2-0 win at the Mariucci Classic on Dec. 29 of this year, Minnesota State heads into this weekend's series having gone 8-1-1 in the last ten games vs. the Beavers.

Chapter & Verse
Minnesota State has gone 205-83-22 under the guidance of head coach Mike Hastings, who is in his eighth season in charge of the Mavericks. No program in the nation has won more games (205) during the time Hastings has been behind the MSU bench.

Dryden Data
Sophomore Dryden McKay, a five-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week honoree this year, stands 21-2-1 with a .946 save percentage and 1.25 goals against average on the season.  The Downers Grove, Ill., native leads the country in wins, goals against average, save percentage and shutouts (he has seven).  McKay stands along atop the school single-season record for shutouts with seven and his 11 career shutouts are tied for first all-time at Minnesota State (Cole Huggins (MSU 2013-17) also had 11).

Marcsman
Senior forward Marc Michaelis, who had a goal and two assists in Minnesota State's 6-3 win at Bowling Green last Friday and is in the midst of a three-game point-scoring streak (3-4--7), ranks fourth in the country in scoring with 16-17--33 in 25 games played for 2019-20. A three-time First Team All-WCHA selection and the 2019-20 WCHA Preseason Player of the Year, Michaelis is the NCAA's active career scoring leader with 151 points (67 Gs, 84 As) in 142 career games played.  His 151 points ranks third on Minnesota State's career scoring list for the DI-era.

Parallel Parking
Senior forward Parker Tuomie, who registered two points on a goal and assist in last weekend's two-game road sweep at #15 Bowling Green, has 41-79--120 in 140 games for his four-year Minnesota State career. His 120 points is eighth on Minnesota State's career point-scoring list.

Au Francais
Senior center Josh French had a goal in each game as the #3 Mavericks posted a two-game league road sweep at #15 Bowling Green last weekend.  French, who has 3-4--7 in 26 games played this year, has 12-19--31 in 138 career games played.  French has 185 face-off wins this year.

Jack of All Trades
Junior defenseman Jack McNeely drew an assist on Nathan Smith's overtime game-winning goal at #15 Bowling Green last Saturday and  has totalled 2-6--8 in the last 12 games. For the year the Lakeville, Minn., native has 2-8--10 and stands second on the team with a +15 rating.

Hey 18
Junior defenseman Ian Scheid, who hasn't missed a game in his four years with the Mavericks, has 0-14--14 in 26 games played in 2019-20.  Scheid, who heads into this weekend's series with Bemidji State riding a three-game point-scoring streak (0-3--3), has 22-67--89 in 147 career games and stands sixth on Minnesota State's career scoring list for defensemen.  

These go to 11
Junior center Jared Spooner, who registered an assist in last Friday's 6-3 win at #15 Bowling Green, has 6-10--16 in 25 games played this year. Spooner leads the Mavericks with a +16 rating this year and the Bismarck, N.D., native has registered 17-45--62 in 106 career games.

Zephyr
Senior defenseman Riese Zmolek, who has 2-5--7 in 25 games played this year, had a goal and an assist, with one shot on goal, one blocked shot and a +2 rating in Minnesota State's sweep at #15 Bowling Green last weekend. The Rochester, Minn., native tallied his second goal of the season in Friday's 6-3 win over the Falcons and then assisted on Josh French's game-tying goal Saturday with the Mavericks eventually prevailing in overtime in the contest, 3-2.

Not so Bad
Sophomore forward Julian Napravnik has racked up three goals and two assists in the last four games in upping his season totals to 7-8--15 in 23 games played.  The Bad Nauheim, Germany native scored his sixth game-winning goal of his career in last Friday's 6-3 victory at Bowling Green and then assisted on Nathan Smith's overtime GWG Saturday.

On Point
Freshman forward Lucas Sowder, this week's WCHA Rookie of the Week, had three points in Minnesota State's sweep at #15 Bowling Green last weekend. The Trinity, Fla., native registered the third three-point game of his freshman season with three assists in last Friday's 6-3 victory over the Falcons with one of his assists coming on the game-winning goal. His 22 points on the year stands for first in the country in freshmen scoring.

GWG
Freshman center Nathan Smith scored the game-winning goal in last Saturday's 3-2 overtime victory at #15 Bowling Green last Saturday.  The goal for Smith, who has 5-12--17 in 23 games in his first year of college hockey, is his first career game-winning tally.

Numerology
Minnesota State has scored the game's first goal in 22 of 26 games this year and own a 20-1-1 record when doing so.

The Mavericks enter this weekend's series with Bemidji State ranking first in the nation in wins (22), goals against average (1.42) and power play percentage.

Now in its 51st season, Minnesota State stands 941-656-156 all-time.
