Rochester, Minn. --- Minnesota State saw its 15-game win streak come to end with a 3-2 loss to the Augustana Vikings in the NSIC Softball Tournament. With the loss the Mavericks move into the lower bracket and will face the winner between Winona State and St. Cloud State with first pitch scheduled for noon tomorrow.
Mackenzie Ward (20-12) started the game for Minnesota State and took the loss despite only allowing three runs on five hits while striking out nine. Ashley Mickschl started for Augustana but did not factor in the decision allowing two runs on four hits in two innings of work. Amber Elliot (17-3) pitched in relief for the Vikings and earned the win allowing only two hits in five innings.
The Mavericks wasted no time getting on the board as in the top of the first inning Kayla Moky scored from third on a passed ball. In the second inning
Courtney Potter singled deep into center field and brought
Torey Richards home.
The bats went quiet for both teams until the fifth inning when the Vikings got a run back on a solo homer. In the sixth inning Augustana put together a rally that resulted in two runs scored to give them the 3-2 lead. Minnesota State wasn't able to threaten in the top of the seventh, and the Vikings held on for the 3-2 win.
Moky finished 3-4 in the game with a run scored while Richards finished 1-3 with a run scored for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State will play the winner between Winona State and St. Cloud State tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon.
