St. Cloud, Minn. --- Minnesota State continued conference play with a pair of losses, 1-0 and 3-2, against St. Cloud State Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
With the results, the Mavericks move to 22-16 on the season and 7-9 in conference play while the Huskies move to 31-11, 13-5 in the NSIC
Game 1
Mackenzie Ward (11-10) started the game but took the loss despite only allowing four hits in the game while striking out eight. Kate Kopek (13-5) started for the Huskies and collected the win allowing only three hits and striking out two.
Defense for both teams was the highlight throughout the game as only seven players got on base for the two teams combined. The decider came in the sixth innings when the Huskies Morgan Emmans hit a solo homerun to right field to give St. Cloud State the 1-0 lead.
Mackenzie Ward led the way for the Mavericks collecting two hits on three at bats.
Game 2
Lexi Schoper (5-2) started the game for Minnesota State and allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work
Ward (11-11) came into the game in relief, pitching tow and two-thirds innings allowing two hits and the walk-off run. Sydney Lapoint started the game for the Huskies, pitching three innings while allowing four hits and two runs before being relieved by Lauren Kirchberg (4-0), who pitched six scoreless innings to claim the win.
Unlike the first game, St. Cloud State scored a pair of runs in the second inning on a pair of fielder's choice plays. In the third inning, Minnesota State got a run back when
Paap scored from first base on a throwing error from third base.
In the fourth inning
Amber Kral singled in Cori Kennedy to tie the game at two, where both teams would remain until the ninth inning. In extras, the Huskies took advantage of a leadoff triple, and with two out, they singled in the runner to walk off with a 3-2 win.
Paap finished the game with four hits and a run scored while
Kral finished the day 4-4 from the plate.
Minnesota State will travel to Duluth, Minn., tomorrow, to make up Saturday's rescheduled doubleheader, with first pitch currently scheduled for 10:30 a.m., on the campus of the College of Saint Scholastica.
