Columbus, Ohio --- Minnesota State's season ends after a 3-0 loss to #10 Ohio State 3-2 in game two of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Quarterfinals at the OSU Ice Rink Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks could not overcome an early power play goal by Ohio State as the game was then played even until 3:30 left in the game.Â
The Buckeyes scored the only goal in the first period on a power play at the 2:04 mark. Senior forward Charly Dahlquist chipped in the puck in the crease after it deflected off an MSU skater. Freshman netminder Abigail Levy made 12 saves in the period as OSU outshot the Mavericks 13-6.
The second period went scoreless for the second day in a row. Ohio State led in shots on goal 29-18 after two periods and Levy made another 16 saves to bring her total up to 28.
The Buckeyes and Mavericks played even since the first goal 2:04 into the game up until the 16:30 mark in the third period. OSU's senior forward Jacyn Reeves got behind the Maverick defense on a partial breakaway and beat Levy. Ohio State added an empty net goal at the 19:22 mark as junior defenseman Jincy Dunne scored the goal.
Freshman Abigail Levy finished the game with 35 saves and finishes with a record of 9-18-7 on the season.
The Buckeyes outshot the Mavericks 38-28 and MSU went zero-for-two on  the only power play, while OSU went one-for-two.
Minnesota State finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-19-7, 3-16-5 WCHA record and finished sixth in the WCHA standings.
