Mavericks Wrap Up Regular Season With Road Trip Against Upper Iowa and Winona State

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team (12-12, 9-11 NSIC) will make its final regular season appearances on the road as it faces off with Upper Iowa Friday, at 5:30 p.m., before taking on Winona State Saturday, at 3:30 p.m.
 
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (12-12, 9-11 NSIC), enters the week after falling to Augustana 77-69 Friday night in Mankato, Minn.  Saturday, the Mavericks defeated the Wayne State Wildcats 90-82 on senior day.

Impact Mavericks: Junior forward Taylor Drost is the leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 13.6 points per game, including a career best 32-point outing against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles.  Senior guard Monica Muth is the second leading scorer on the team averaging 10.4 points per game.  Sophomore forward Brooke Tonsfeldt is averaging the most rebounds with 6.9 per game and also is averaging 1.8 steals per game.

Freshman Fire: Several freshmen are making an early impact for the Mavericks this season. Center Kristi Fett is averaging 5.2 points per game while also averaging 4.1 rebounds a game and is leading the team with 17 blocks. Guard Rylee Menster is averaging 5.0 points per game while shooting 43.9% from the floor.

Stat Pack: As a team Minnesota State is averaging 74.6 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 70.7. Additionally, the Mavericks average 42.5 rebounds per game and dish out 13.5 assists per game and steal the ball 9.0 times per game.  

Scouting Upper Iowa:  Upper Iowa is located in Fayette, Iowa, and is currently 3-25 (0-20 NSIC)  on the season. The Peacocks are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Upper Iowa is led by interim head coach Kelly Kielsmeier who is in his first year with the program.  
 
As a team this season, the Peacocks net 54.9 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 72.6. Upper Iowa also snatches 33.6 rebounds and dishes out 11.2 assists per contest. 

The Peacocks are led by sophomore guard Natalie Dinius who is averaging 8.2 points per game.  Senior forward Haley Martin is the leading rebounder for Upper Iowa, averaging 6.1  boards per game.  

Saturday's game will mark the 24th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was a an 89-57 win for the Mavericks eaerlier this season in Mankato, Minn.

Scouting Winona State:  Winona State is located in Winona, Minn., and is currently 14-10 (12-8 NSIC) on the season. The Warriors are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  Winona  State is led by head coach Scott Ballard who is in his 15th  season as the leader of the program.  

As a team this season, the Warriors net 64.5 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 59.6. Winona State also snatches 36.3 rebounds and dishes out 10.8 assists per contest. 

The Warriors are led by sophomore guard Emily Kieck who averages 10.8 points and also 2.5 assists per game.  Sophomore guard Allie Pickrain is the second leading scorer for Winona State, averaging 10.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per fame.  

Saturday's game will mark the 54th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was a 79-69 double overtime loss at Taylor Center.  

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will play their first round NSIC Tournament game Wednesday, Feb. 27, with time and place TBA.
