What's Up?
Ranked #1 in the nation for the fourth consecutive week by USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine, Minnesota State (12-1-1) claimed a two-game nonconference road sweep over two-time defending national champion Minnesota Duluth with 4-1 and 3-2 wins last weekend.  
 
Streak Stuff

The two wins over UMD last weekend extends the Mavericks' winning streak to seven games. The streak stands tied for the third-longest current unbeaten streak in the nation.  North Dakota is in the midst of an 11-game unbeaten streak and Cornell owns a nine-game unbeaten streak.

Resuming WCHA Action This Weekend
Minnesota State resumes league action this weekend with Lake Superior State visiting the Key City for games Friday and Saturday.  In a series that started in 2013-14, the Mavericks stand 20-3-1 all-tme vs. the Lakers.  Minnesota State is 11-2-1 all-time vs. Lake State in games played at the Mankato Civic Center.

Statistically Speaking
Minnesota State enters the weekend leading the nation in goals against average (1.14) and stands tied for first in wins (12) and goal margin (+37). The Mavericks are second in +/- (+24) and fifth in penalty kill percentage (.923).

Coach Hastings
Minnesota State has gone 195-81-22 under the guidance of head coach Mike Hastings (SCSU '93), who is in his eighth season in charge of the Mavericks. No program in the nation has won more games (195) during that span. The next closest team is Quinnipiac, which has won 181.

McKay Notes
Sophomore Dryden McKay, a four-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week honoree this year, limited Minnesota Duluth to two goals on 66 shots last weekend. He had a career-high 37 saves in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the two-time defending national champion Bulldogs. For the year he stands 11-1-1 with a .955 save percentage and leads the nation with a 1.14 goals against average.

Michaelis Notes
Senior captain Marc Michaelis, who had 1-1--2 in the sweep at UMD last weekend, has 7-10--17 in 14 games played for 2019-20.  A three-time First Team All-WCHA selection and the 2019-20 WCHA Preseason Player of the Year, Michaelis is the NCAA's active career scoring leader with 135 points (58 Gs, 77 As) in 131 career games played.  His 135 points ranks fourth on Minnesota State's career scoring list for the DI-era.

Tuomie Notes
Senior forward Parker Tuomie, who had 1-1--2 in the series at UMD, has 37-71--108 for his four-year Minnesota State career and his 108 points ties for 11th on Minnesota State's career point-scoring list.  The Bremerhaven, Germany native has racked up 6-6--12 in his last ten games played.

Gerard Notes
Senior winger Charlie Gerard, who has seven goals in the last nine games, has 7-4--11 in 14 games played this year.  The Rocky River, Ohio native, who leads the Mavericks with 52 shots on goal and stands second on the team with seven goals, has tallied 24-27--51 in 98 career games with Minnesota State.

Lutz Notes
Junior forward Reggie Lutz, who has 5-5--10 in 14 games played this season, had three assists in last Saturday's 3-1 win at Minnesota Duluth.  The Elk River, Minn., native leads the Mavericks with a +11 rating this year, a mark that stands tied for 11th in the nation.  Lutz has 19 goals and 34 assists for 53 points in 89 career games played with the Mavericks.

Jaremko Notes
Junior forward Jake Jaremko registered a three-point weekend with two goals and assist in the series at Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Elk River, Minn., native, who garnered WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the sweep over the Bulldogs, has 25-69--64 in 83 career games with the Mavericks.

Mackey Notes
Junior defenseman Connor Mackey, who registered two assists and had four blocked shots in last weekend's nonconference road series at Minnesota Duluth, hasn't missed a game in his three years with Minnesota State and owns 14-33--47 in 96 career games.

Scheid Notes
Junior defenseman Ian Scheid, who hasn't missed a game in his four years with the Mavericks, has 0-8--8 in 14 games played in 2019-20.  He has 22-61--83 in 135 career games and stands eighth on Minnesota State's career scoring list for defensemen.  In terms of DI-era blue liners, he's fifth in career scoring.

Spooner Notes
Junior center Jared Spooner, who has 3-5--8 in 14 games played this year, has scored three times and assisted on three other goals for six points in the last ten games. The Bismarck, N.D., native has registered 14-40--54 in 95 career games.  His 105 face-off wins this year ranks third on the team.

Smith Notes
Freshman center Nathan Smith has now been named WCHA Rookie of the Week twice this year after totaling three points on a goal and two assists in last weekend's road sweep at Minnesota Duluth.  With 4-9--13 in 12 games played on the season, the Hudson, Fla., native is tied for eighth nationally in freshmen scoring. Smith has 65 face-off wins this year (out of 103) and his .631 winning percentage ranks 12th in the nation.

French Notes
Senior center Josh French registered his first goal of the year when he scored Minnesota State's third goal in Friday's 4-1 win at Minnesota Duluth.  French's 108 face-off wins this year ranks second on the team. In his four seasons with the Mavericks, French has 10-17--27 in 126 career games.

Sowder Notes
Freshman forward Lucas Sowder picked up his first career game-winning goal when he scored his third goal of the year in last Saturday's 3-1 win at Minnesota Duluth.  Sowder, who has 3-9--12 in 11 games played this year, ranks fourth on Minnesota State's scoring charts.
