#2 Minnesota State Preps for Mariucci Classic

At the Break
Rated #2 by USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine, Minnesota State owns a 15-2-1 overall record and is 10-2-0 in WCHA action at the Holiday Break. The Mavericks, who have gone 10-1 in the last 11 games, split a road league series at Northern Michigan the last time out, downing the Wildcats 5-2 before falling 4-1 in the rematch in games played in Marquette, Mich., Dec. 13 and 14.

At the Mariucci Classic This Weekend
Next action for the Mavericks is the Mariucci Classic slated for Dec. 28-29 in Minneapolis.  Minnesota State squares-off against St. Cloud State Saturday and will play the winner/loser of Bemidji State/Minnesota Sunday.

The Mavericks have won three of the last four meetings vs. SCSU and stand 72-54-10 all-time vs. the Huskies.

Minnesota State stands 56-57-20 vs. Bemidji State. The series dates back to 1974-75 and the Mavericks stand 7-1-1 in the last nine meetings vs. the Beavers.

Minnesota State has won six of the last eight games vs. the University of Minnesota and is 16-37-6 all-time vs. the Gophers.

What's That You Say?
Minnesota State has gone 198-82-22 under the guidance of head coach Mike Hastings, who is in his eighth season in charge of the Mavericks. No program in the nation has won more games (198) during that span. Hastings is two wins shy of becoming just the 19th coach in league history to reach the 200-win mark while coaching in the WCHA. Minnesota Duluth's Scott Sandelin (2000-13) and Wisconsin's Mike Eaves (2002-13) are tied for 17th with 231 WCHA victories.

Sophomore Dryden McKay, a five-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week honoree this year and the HCA National Goaltender of the Month for November, stands 14-1-1 with a .955 save percentage and 1.09 goals against average on the season.  The Downers Grove, Ill., native leads the country in wins, goals against average and save percentage and stands tied for first with four shutouts.

Marcus Oh-Really-Us
Senior forward Marc Michaelis, who scored a pair a of power play goals in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13, has 10-12--22 in 18 games played for 2019-20. A three-time First Team All-WCHA selection and the 2019-20 WCHA Preseason Player of the Year, Michaelis is the NCAA's active career scoring leader with 140 points (61 Gs, 79 As) in 135 career games played.  His 140 points ranks fourth on Minnesota State's career scoring list for the DI-era.

Parker Patter
Senior forward Parker Tuomie, who contributed a pair of assists in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13, has 38-73--111 in 132 games for his four-year Minnesota State career. His 111 points ranks 11th on Minnesota State's career point-scoring list.

JJ has been Dy-No-Mite
Junior forward Jake Jaremko, who had an assist in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13 and scored the Mavericks' lone goal in Saturday's contest, enters the break riding a six-game point streak during which he's racked up 5-2--7. The Nowthen, Minn., native has 28-70--68 in 87 career games with the Mavericks.

Jack of Diamonds
Junior defenseman Jack McNeely contributed two assists in Minnesota State's series at Northern Michigan. McNeely, who also was +2 with three blocked shots vs. the Wildcats, assisted on Julian Napravnik's game-winning goal in the 5-2 win over Northern Michigan and also assisted on Jake Jaremko's goal in the 4-1 loss to the Wildcats. For the year the Lakeville, Minn., native has 0-5--5 and stands tied for third on the team with a +11 rating.

Return of the Mack
Junior defenseman Connor Mackey, who contributed a pair of assists in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13, hasn't missed a game in his three years with Minnesota State.  The Tower Lakes, Ill., native as 3-9--12 this year and stands tied for third on the team with a +11 rating. Mackey owns 14-35--49 and has played in 100 career games.

Bringing the Equilibrium
Junior defenseman Ian Scheid hasn't missed a game in his four years with the Mavericks.  Scheid has 0-10--10 in 18 games played in 2019-20 and 22-63--85 in 139 career games. The Coon Rapids, Minn., native stands eighth on Minnesota State's career scoring list for defensemen.  In terms of DI-era blue liners, he's fifth in career scoring.

Ahead by a Century
Junior center Jared Spooner, who is about to play in his 100th career game, contributed a goal in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13. Spooner, who leads the Mavericks with a +12 rating, has 6-6--12 in 18 games played this year and the Bismarck, N.D., native has registered 17-41--58 in 99 career games.

Music to my Ears
Sophomore winger Julian Napravnik scored his fifth career game-winning goal in Minnesota State's 5-2 victory at Northern Michigan Dec. 13.  The Bad Nauheim, Germany native added an assist on Jake Jaremko's goal in Saturday's game vs. the Wildcats in upping his season totals to 4-6--10 in 15 games played and enters the Mariucci Classic with 12-19--32 in 56 career games.

Smitty's
Freshman forward Nathan Smith is Minnesota State's top-scoring newcomer with 4-11--15 in 16 games played.  His point total stands tied for fifth in the nation amongst all newcomers and his 11 assists is also tied for fifth in the nation amongst all newcomers.

Sowderhouse Rules
Freshman forward Lucas Sowder ranks fifth on the Mavericks in scoring with 3-10--13 in 14 games played.  His point total stands tied for 12th in the nation amongst all newcomers. His ten assists ranks eighth amongst all first-year NCAA performers.

Setting the Hook
Senior defenseman Edwin Hookenson has 4-4--8 on the year and ranks third on the Mavericks with 22 blocked shots.  A CoSIDA Academic All-American last year, the Lampman, Sask., native has 7-15--22 in 104 career games.

Zed
Junior defenseman Riese Zmolek has 1-3--4 in 17 games played this year and for his three-year career owns 4-16--20 in 91 games played.  The Rochester, Minn., native enters the weekend leading Minnesota State with 26 blocked shots.

Mavericks All-Time
Now in its 51st season, Minnesota State stands 934-655-156 all-time.
