Mavericks Wrap Up 2019 Portion of Their Schedule With Pair of Games Against the Golden Bears

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team (6-2, 3-1 NSIC) will wrap up the 2019 part of its schedule with a pair of games against travel partner Concordia-St. Paul.  Wednesday, the Mavericks will travel to St. Paul with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m., before the teams return to Mankato Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
 
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (6-2, 3-1 NSIC), enters the week with a 6-2 record after picking up a pair of road wins last weekend against previously unbeaten Winona State as well as Upper Iowa.

Stat Pack: As a team, Minnesota State is averaging 80.1 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 68.1. Additionally, the Mavericks average 42.1 rebounds per game and dish out 15.1 assists per game while stealing the ball 13.6 times per game.

Impact Mavericks: Senior guard Kirstin Klitzke is the leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 12.0 points per game as well as averaging 3.0 rebounds per game.  Junior forward Tayla Stuttley the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.7 points per game as well as a team leading 2.7 assists per game.  Junior forward Rachel Shumski is the leading rebounder for the Mavericks, averaging 6.9 boards per game while adding 9.3 points per game. 

Youth Movement: Several underclassmen are making an early impact for the Mavericks this season. Center Kristi Fett is averaging 9.1 points per game while also averaging 5.5 rebounds a game. Freshman guard Shea Fuller is averaging 7.3 points per game this season while sophomore forward Mikayla Nachazel has averaged 3.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per game off the bench.  Freshman guard Joey Batt is averaging 8.4 points per game to go along with 1.7 steals per contest.

Bench Squad: The bench players for the Mavericks have outscored their opponents 303-171 to date this season.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul:  Concordia-St. Paul is located in St. Paul, Minn., and is currently 5-5 (2-2 NSIC) on the season. The Golden Bears are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  CSP is led by head coach Amanda Johnson who is in her 4th season as the leader of the program.  

As a team this season, the Golden Bears net 69.7 points per game in comparison to their opponents' 69.9. CSP also snatches 36.6 rebounds and dishes out 13.8 assists per contest. 

The Golden Bears are led by junior forward Sidney Wentland and junior guard Riley Wheatcraft who average 13.0 and 11.9 points per game respectively. Wentland and Wheatcraft also lead CSP in rebounding, averaging 4.9 and 4.6 boards per contest respectively.

Friday's game will mark the 37th all-time meeting between these two programs, the most recent of which was an 65-54 loss for the Mavericks last season. 

Looking Ahead: Minnesota State will take a weekend off for the holidays before returning to action Jan. 3rd against Minot State in Mankato with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  Saturday, the Mavericks will host the University of Mary with tip-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
